Abstract

1,210,716. Yarn packages. FIBREMAKERS Ltd. 7 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 27260/68. Heading B8M. A yarn package 3 of synthetic continuous filamentary yarn is ordered on a bobbin 1 in a double-taper build using a long-to-short type of build and is characterized in that it has a rounded profile at least at the junctions of the end portions to the cylindrical mid-portion 11. This is achieved by increasing the ratio of the rate of traverse stroke length decrease to the rate of package radius increase for a period or periods at least including the final period of the build. The increase may take place throughout the build in which case the entire end-portions are rounded. In a further embodiment, the build comprises a single period of constant traverse stroke length decrease and a single period of increased ratio, resulting in a package having a cylindrical central portion 11, straight tapered portions 5, 7 and rounded shoulders 10, 10<SP>1</SP> connecting the portions 5, 7 to the portion 11. The increase in ratio may be accomplished by programming the spindle speed. The maximum taper angle is preferably 22¢ degrees.
