Abstract

1,109,414. Yarn packages. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Sept., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965]. No. 43828/65. Heading B8M. A yarn package comprises a body of yarn 1 wound in a shaped build on a bobbin or tube 3, a transfer tail 5 being wound at one end and a waste receiving device 9 being provided at the other, the final lengths of yarn 11 comprised in the package being wound on the device 9. The waste receiving device 9 is removable and is preferably a sleeve or spool. The yarn is preferably wound in a double taper build and may be a continuous filament yarn of synthetic polymeric material, e.g. polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, which is bulked or latently-bulked by a crimping treatment. In the case of a spool being used as the waste receiving device 9, the spool may be detachably secured to the tip of the spindle on which the bobbin is mounted. The package is formed by first winding the transfer tail, e.g. spaced helical turns, at one end of the tube, then building the body of yarn, and finally winding on to the waste receiving device which is spaced from the yarn body at the opposite end to the transfer tail. The winding is slowed and brought to a stop during winding on to the waste receiving device. Winding may take place on a draw-twist machine or a ring-spinning frame.
