Abstract

Un método para hacer ácido acético incluye: (a) hacer reaccionar catalíticamente metanol o un derivado reactivo del mismo con monóxido de carbono en presencia de un catalizador de metal del grupo VIII homogéneo y un promotor de yoduro de metilo en un recipiente del reactor en una mezcla de reacción líquida que incluye ácido acético, agua, acetato de metilo, yoduro de metilo y catalizador homogéneo, el recipiente del reactor siendo operado a una presión de reactor; (b) retirar la mezcla de reacción del recipiente de reacción y alimentar la mezcla de reacción retirada junto con monóxido de carbono adicional a un recipiente de pre-evaporador/post-reactor operado a una presión por abajo de la presión del recipiente del reactor; (c) ventilar los componentes livianos en el recipiente del pre-evaporador y concurrentemente consumir acetato de metilo en el recipiente de pre-evaporador/post-reactor; las condiciones de reacción, tiempo de residencia y composición son controladas en el recipiente de pre-evaporador/post-reactor de tal manera que una mezcla de pre-evaporación instantánea es enriquecida en ácido acético y disminuida en yoduro de metilo y acetato de metilo en el recipiente de pre-evaporador/post-reactor; del pre-evaporador/post-recipiente de reacción, la mezcla enriquecida con ácido acético es (d) retirada y alimentada a un recipiente de evaporación instantánea.
