Both series primarily follow the footsteps of a seemingly intimidatingly looking protagonist and an honour heroine, and how their world(s) changes with the blossom of a newfound teenage love.

both are heart-warming coming of age stories with themes of growth and a great cast of characters with their own struggles and character arcs. although kaoru hana takes itself a bit more seriously while horimiya is more comedy focused, i am sure that if you like one you will surely like the other :)
Horimiya holds a special place in my heart for personal reasons.
I read Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku for the first time last summer - and, inexplicably, it gave me a sense of deja-vu.
Rintaro and Miyamura are both the children of bakers - which might seem like the only similarity - but both are wholesome, fun romance mangas that I'd recommend to anyone.
Seriously, if you've read Horimiya, give this a try. it won't disappoint you.
