A very mixed bag of short stories. There are good and bad ones, creepy and wholesome - you never know what kinda story you get next. I’d say half of them are good and the other half is kinda meh. The art, as always, is very nice though.
In terms of content warnings - it’s pretty tame, with minimum nudity, until at some point closer to the end suddenly the characters and pretty explicit imagery from Ryouki Keiji Marusai appear. So viewer discretion is advised. I got the impression that this part acts as an ad for that book.
I’d recommend it, but not strongly.

Ryouki Keiji Marusai is a striking blend of elegance and depravity, pairing beautifully crafted artwork with guro horror.
Each chapter represents a standalone story, only loosely connected through a framework of an unofficial crime investigation unit. The investigators themselves get brief introductions, but they almost never play any significant role, being nothing more than a way to stitch all of the cases together. The stories themselves are the main focus: dark, perverse, mysterious, and often deeply disturbing.
I think, this is the type of storytelling where Ookoshi-san really shines - no long introductions, no character development. Every chapter drops you straight into a scenario that feels
...
like the kind of a chilling tale someone might tell around a campfire in the woods.
The art is genuinely beautiful. I consider it a rare thing for such an elegant and sensual art style to be paired with grotesque guro degeneracy. A beauty wrapped around brutality.
Ryouki Keiji Marusai holds a special place for me. The combination of delicate artwork with stories that plunge into psychological and physical horror make for a unique and thrilling experience.

A nearly perfect, over the top violent and perverse magnum opus.
It’s the kind of work that leaves an imprint whether you love it or hate it, one which blends brutality, dark humor and psychological tension into something cohesive and deeply compelling. I would’ve given it a 10 if not for minor imperfections.
- The story is gripping, but what really elevates it is the pacing. The narrative moves with a rhythm that feels deliberate and controlled, even when the events themselves are chaotic. There’s a constant sense of escalation, but it never becomes exhausting or repetitive. Every chapter pushes the plot forward or deepens
...
the psychological landscape of the characters. It’s rare to see a manga balance momentum and depth this well.
- Yes, there’s a lot of violence and explicit scenes. Some readers might argue that it’s excessive or purely for shock value, but that interpretation misses the point entirely. The extremity is part of the worldbuilding, it’s the language through which the manga communicates the emotional instability, trauma, and moral decay of its characters. It’s not a decoration, and without it the manga would've been just dull, generic and soulless.
- The cast is nothing short of iconic. Even readers who dislike the manga would have to admit that the characters are unforgettable. They’re twisted, eccentric, and psychologically complex. Each one feels distinct in design, motivations, and emotional contradictions. Their interactions are unpredictable yet coherent within the manga’s warped internal logic.
- The art style is simple yet incredibly expressive. The only downside for me was the usage of that technique when mangaka puts irl photos with minimal tracing into otherwise fully hand-drawn manga. Never been a fan of those as they break the immersion and stylistical consistency. Luckily this type of thing is not very frequent here.
For all its brutality, the manga is surprisingly funny. The humor doesn’t undercut the darkness; it complements it, creating a bizarre but effective balance. The pigeon incident had me laughing like crazy - one of the funniest, most unexpected moments I’ve seen in a manga lol. It’s that blend of horror and absurdity that gives its unique flavor.
By reading this, you’ll be doing yourself a favor, but you need to be prepared, or at least accustomed to stories that push boundaries in every direction.

In between reading serious manga, I usually pick something short and light as a palate cleanser. This time I randomly stumbled upon Uwakoi and with 0 knowledge or forethought started reading it. And oh boy it delivered. It definitely falls into the category of "it's so bad, it's good".
- It's a harem erotic kind of manga, where mc can't seem to stop having sex with everyone, while random girls just keep coming at him with the only thing in mind.
- It's extremely easy to read. I was honestly amazed at how the author managed to keep my attention and maintain some sense of
...
intrigue. Or maybe was I simply too aroused to stop? :thinking_emoji: Anyway, I finished it in one sitting (if you don't count night sleep as a break)
- The art is quite good. I would've loved to see more detailed panels from time to time, but overall have no compalins.
- The characters are shallow, with the absolute minimum of backstory. The mc is probably the shallowest of them all, and it seems that the author intentionally wants to keep it that way. Throughout the story he throws questions like "why am I doing this" many times without ever attempting to reflect on his actions, let alone answer the question. He's just a mindless puppet, being moved forward in life by his pp. Having finished the manga, I still have no clue what kind of a person he is, what's he interested in or what was he thinking at any point in the story.
- The plot is surprisingly entertaining, while being completely brainless. Just don't forget to throw away all your preconceptions about how the real world works if you want to enjoy it. It did feel that every chapter was necessary in some way, except for a couple near the end, where the author probably just needed an excuse to throw more sex scenes. Of which there's no shortage, by the way. I'm not a frequent reader of this genre, so I was pleasanly surprised by some pretty dark moments, which had a bit of "Higurashi no naku koro ni" kinda vibe. And the ending is the cherry on top, I genuinely applaud the author for that. Tbh, I couldn't think of more fitting and satisfying ending.
From me it's a definite recommendation
