Synopsis

Ichi may seem like a spineless weakling—but when the tears start flowing, a terrifying transformation takes place. Driven to his mental breaking point, Ichi becomes an unstoppable force of carnage, unleashing a torrent of violence on his next target. When his destructive path collides with Kakihara, a sadomasochistic yakuza boss with a penchant for pain, it ignites a bloody spiral of chaos, depravity, and unimaginable brutality.

BackgroundIn 2001, Koroshiya 1 was adapted into a live-action film which was directed by Takashi Miike.

The series has been published in English as Ichi the Killer by Seven Seas Entertainment as 2-in-1 omnibus volumes since July 29, 2025. It has been published in Spanish by ECC Comics since February 20, 2015.

A nearly perfect, over the top violent and perverse magnum opus.

It’s the kind of work that leaves an imprint whether you love it or hate it, one which blends brutality, dark humor and psychological tension into something cohesive and deeply compelling. I would’ve given it a 10 if not for minor imperfections.

If I wasn’t recommended this manga from a trusted friend I would not have given it a chance or endured so much just to finish this manga. In fact I kind of wish I hadn’t read it.

I feel like everyone who has a high review of this manga either lacks the intelligence to understand the distinction between true ero guro and something created solely to be edgy and offensive with no true purpose in its writing. Title: A spectacle of shock with absolutely no substance

Story I honestly cannot understand what story this series is trying to tell. The narrative completely fails to establish a clear purpose. Basically, the plot is just a pile of gore, perversion, and disturbing content. There is an attempt to create a plot, but it is buried by the work's desire to shock the viewer at all costs. Even the eroguro genre usually has more narrative logic than this.
