– All of my scores are purely subjective, they are my absolute opinion on the specific show. Others might or might not agree with my ratings, but that isn’t any of my concern. Most of my scores are given based on the show’s build. The key elements of a show play an important factor; the idea, characters, execution, graphics, and of course my personal enjoyment.
[10] Definitive: A masterpiece that sets a benchmark for its genre and the medium as a whole. The show would showcase unparalleled quality in its storytelling, animation, character depth, and thematic resonance, leaving a lasting legacy and offering an unforgettable experience.
[09] Exceptional: This show would truly be an outstanding work, demonstrating excellence in its overall presentation. Although there are flaws that obstruct it from having the title of masterpiece, it offers a profound and impactful viewing experience that sets it apart as a highlight within the medium.
[08] Captivating: Imparted with flaws, this show comes close to excellence and boasts strong storytelling, high-quality production, execution of great ideas and well-realised characters which makes it a definitive experience. It leaves a lasting impression and offers a thoroughly enjoyable and immersive experience that is easy to recommend.
[07] Notable: This is a show that stands out for its distinct positive attributes. Whether it's a compelling narrative, impressive animation, well-developed characters, or a unique thematic approach, it offers a genuinely engaging and memorable experience.
[06] Respectable: This show would demonstrate a solid level of craftsmanship and deliver a generally positive viewing experience. A coherent build and quality, decent would be what describes it best. Nothing too notable or specifically memorable. A worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
[05] Standard: Representing a truly middle-ground experience, this show neither impresses nor disappoints. It delivers a familiar narrative structure with competent quality and inadequate execution of elements. A watch that neither stands out nor falters significantly.
[04] Acceptable: This show manages to meet a baseline level of quality without excelling in any particular area. The entirety is purely mediocre and lacklustre, below the middle point. It lacks any significant spark or memorable elements. A purely average watch.
[03] Subpar: While it may possess a few redeeming qualities, this show ultimately falls short of expectations. A show that lacks many things and unpolished. I would personally never recommend a show that falls into the subpar category as this is where things start to get unbearable. A generally underwhelming experience.
[02] Abysmal: Plagued by severe shortcomings, this title struggles to deliver on even basic levels. It generally lacks substance and depth, has shallow writing and a general lack of cohesion. Difficult to recommend in any regard. A truly horrible experience.
[01] Appalling: This show suffers from critical failures across various elements. From a disjointed narrative and uninspired animation to underdeveloped characters and questionable pacing, it offers a thoroughly disappointing and often frustrating viewing experience. A significant misstep.
Demon Slayer is a great anime starter for sure, I still can't believe it took me until the end of 2022 to finally watch it smh.
Yup those are the exact two that annoy me, even though they have mellowed out a decent amount since S1. Actually I'm curious: who is your favorite DS character? I know it's super basic but I really like Giyuu, and maybe Obanai because his design is so cool annnd I appreciated him more when I saw some bit from his manga appearances- still need to actually read it myself so I don't get spoiled anymore. Actually have you read any of it, or waiting to experience it in anime form?
I happened to watch Dororo around a year before I watched Demon Slayer (only finally got around to watching it about 2 months ago) so maybe I'm biased, but I find it quite a bit better at least in the story and character aspect. Demon Slayer is a fun watch but the characters can be very annoying at times, while the two main characters in Dororo I love so much. They just work perfectly together!
I can't help but notice that you have Dororo in your favorites yay! It's pretty rare that I meet someone else who loves it too :O I seriously binged the whole thing in just a few days even though I try to take shows slower ahh
