Hiya, it is all good, we all deserve a break every now and then XD Hope all your exams went fine, when do you get the results back?
Haven't really experienced true burnout before with anime, which is pretty surprising considering how long I've been watching the medium. Maybe if it was the only hobby I had, I could see myself getting a little sick of it. Playing tennis keeps me stable I think lol, been doing that longer than anime.
Nah, it was a fun year. Already started on the AWC26, first time doing a Shiritori chain, definitely had to plan that one all out before watching anything, ain't no way I'm gonna go in blind for that challenge, could easily see myself screwing up the chain at some stage XD
Hey, it's been a while, just saw that you were the one who got their monthly challenge suggestion to win, congrats lol, I've never submitted anything before, was that a first for you?
Anyway, happy holidays, have a good Christmas and new years :)
Aku no Hana was how I got introduced to Oshimi, specifically the anime. I loved what they did with the rotoscoping, not sure if you've seen the 2013 anime, but it caused a bit of an uproar at the time supposedly. It also has the best soundtrack of any anime I've seen IMO, not too many OSTs hit me like that or even stay with me after a show ends. It is my favorite of his so far and I loved the manga as well. Still a couple big reads of his to go though, hopeful for another good experience.
Trust me lol, I understand about the long series, it can be very daunting, all these longer shows had been pushed out of sight and out of mind for the last however many years since I first became aware of them, only recently I said screw it and started watching a few more of them. I find there's no rush for these types of shows anyway, took me three years to complete Gintama for example.
"back breaking", couldn't have said it any better, if (when) I get injured, it's usually my lower back XD It's all good though, I enjoy the work well enough.
I was planning on reading the Ranma 1/2 manga eventually, cause from what I've heard there's still about half of the source material that the original anime did not adapt, who knows how long the remake will last for.
No worries, there's no rush at all, hell, I only have a fairly short window for MAL and anime in general these days, getting swamped with work in recent times...
You've sold me on Sekkou Boys, I'll have to try and add it for the next monthly challenge at the very least. I'm easy to laugh and impress with comedy anime, hopefully it's no different.
I've thought about doing that with some of my scores, but my days of watching anime go years and years back, I'm not sure I want to change a score for a show I watched early on (something like FMAB), in direct comparison to something I watched maybe this year. I think only change scores on the odd re-watch tbh, recently it was Grand Blue (supposedly was a 10/10 for me back in 2018, but it didn't impress as much on the second watch unfortunately). The scores signify what I felt at the time. But I'm definitely a harsher scorer for sure, especially seasonal stuff.
Chi seemed to be a love it or hate it type anime when it was airing, I kind of fell in the latter (didn't actively dislike it, it just bored me to tears). DIdn't help that the subject matter wasn't all that interesting to me either, but glad you enjoyed it anyway. A 10/10 show is always exciting. Now Alien 9 and Code Geass I can get behind XD Especially the latter, that was one of my first ever anime IIRC, Code Geass really blew me away at the time, pretty sure that's still one of my few 10/10s.
Good luck with that movie challenge lol, I'm sure I tried doing that at one stage, but missed too many days or something of the sort, it was a bit of a commitment, though I suppose there's a fair amount of shorter movies you could put in there...
I'm slaving away on my dairy farm atm, and the new season of anime just begun not too ago, so I've really only been picking and choosing what I'm going to commit to from that sizeable list of shows. It's a damn good season as well, which is a little annoying, I used to be able to get in a random episode or two at work during downtime, but I'm a bit too full on atm with work.
Something I read recently which I see you also have a positive feeling towards, was "Blood on the Tracks" from Shuzo Oshimi, an author I love to read. I own a few of his series and am planning on eventually buying all his works at some stage. Not my fav from him (still an amazing read), but the best his art has ever looked IMO. Still waiting for the final volume to arrive in my letterbox.
For my watches in the last 2-3 months, it's mostly been Ranma 1/2 and all it's sequels/spin offs. It seems I'm on a bit of Rumiko Takahashi binge, I just started the original Urusei Yatsura a few days ago, I just love her stuff. Plan to leave Maison Ikkoku last, have a sneaky feeling that it'll be my favorite of her creations, it looks very homely/neighborly which I adore in anime...
So yeah, that's me. Nice to see you're doing well. I'll get back to you with Sekkou Boys, whenever that may be :)
Hey, how's it going? What was that Sekkou Boys anime like? I just read the description and sounded real fricking weird lol, only 7 minutes an episode, might have to give it a go. Anything else you've watched or read that've been good in the last couple of months?
Well, I actually dropped it way back in 2018 for a reason I can't really remember, though I hadn't watched a lot of full CGI anime at that point, so it was probably really jarring to me at the time.
I picked it up again for the AWC (watch a dropped anime), and I decided to start again from the beginning. I remember the general atmosphere and overall plot of the show, and a few of the characters, but not much else, so a lot of the shocking scenes feel like the first time for me.
Just as you described the other two shows really, it's goofy/laidback with a somewhat melancholic undertone, these sort of shows do something to me, though I can understand wanting it to lean more one way. Though it has PS2 like animation thanks to the CGI work the director uses (also did the same thing with Kemono Friends), I enjoyed the aesthetic, others will hate it though.
Yeah, AWC runs the show for me as well lol, controls what I watch until I finish it. That, and the monthly challenge which I've been doing since early 2019.
As far as new favorites, mostly on the manga side really, but that's because I don't have much history or experience with it anyway. Watamote especially, probably the funniest manga I've read so far. The anime is pretty good from memory, if you think cringe loner girl trying to become popular/reinvent herself sounds like fun, you could give it a try XD
I suppose I finally got around to watching Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso last month, having putting it off for years due to semi spoilers/knowing it was tragic, but it was still amazing regardless. Kemurikusa surprised as well, was like a mix of Girls Last Tour and Train at the end of the world.
Hey, long time no speak, how are you? :) I remember seeing you watching Chihayafuru 2 about a week ago and racing through it, what did you think? I can't remember a lot of details about single seasons, as it just flowed from one season to the next from memory, but was this season more competitive in nature, as in tournaments? Is this when Arata is in a slump (or something like that)? Man, it's been too long since I've watched the show.
Hey sorry for being so late with this, but thank you so much for the Secret Santa manga recs! Snow Angel sounds amazing, like absolutely everything I could've asked for in a rec, and I will definitely be starting up on it once I get less busy. I've also been meaning to get on A Silent Voice, and that rec was definitely the push I needed to get on it sooner than I otherwise would have.
Thank you again, I appreciate it a lot! I hope your 2025 has been treating you well so far :)
Haha, no problem. Not everyone is a fan of the studio Shaft aesthetic and direction, I definitely understand. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on March Comes In Like A Lion when you get to it eventually, it's also by Shaft, but leaves out the perverseness seen in a lot of their other series. And yeah, juxtaposition is a hell of a drug, seeing two things that don't normally mix (cute girls and guns) is right up my alley, glad you liked it.
