If you find the anime interesting but not a fan of the low-budget animation, I recommend reading it.
The premise is weird, but most parts of the story justified themselves as it goes on. Though having the absurd humor and somewhat unrealistic plot developments, it is still very well written, as we get the motivations of both MCs gradually explained over time, and we get to dig deep into the pasts and personal struggles of the main cast a lot.
A lot of the characters are clearly flawed, but we get to see how past traumas shaped who they are and how they're healed and

validated throughout the story. The author is also very good at using visual metaphors, sometimes for jokes, sometimes to depict characters' inner monologues in an absurd way.
I genuinely believe if you like romance and comedy and are able to get pass the somewhat questionable premise, you'll find it a very solid, funny, artistically creative and touching manga. It concludes the story properly with not many chapters, making it a short and rewarding read.
