| According to their website, manga publisher DMP started a campaign via Kickstarter in order to be able to publish Osamu Tezuka's "Barbara" in English for the first time. In only two days, the campaign reached its goal, however it is currently still possible to back this Kickstarter and receive the bonus items. Tezuka Productions allowed DMP to publish "Barbara" after DMP successfully reached its previous Kickstarter goal to reprint Osamu Tezuka's "Swallowing the Earth". With Kickstarter, users pledge money to the campaign over a 30 day period. If the goal is met by the end of the 30 days, then the project is funded. By pledging different amounts, users can gain different rewards. Awards include a copy of the book when it's printed or even a package that includes the book and bonuses exclusive to Kickstarter, such as bonus art and commentary. Backers of 35 dollars or more in this Kickstarter receive a bonus pdf, with art and an essay by Helen McCarthy who wrote "The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga". | it's nothing short of criminal that anyone should have to put their hand out to publish the works of tezuka-sama in english - all of his works should be available everywhere, he is after all the man who helped start all this.............can't believe his genius goes largely unrecognized here in the u.s.a., although when i think about it, most people here in america still think of anime/manga as a medium for kids/teenagers (along w/our native comics).....i am however glad fans can make this happen if no one else can! |

| Amazon.co.uk had the release date set to something far out like October, then changed it to August... in September. Now, they have no stock. Grrrr. In the mood for more Tezuka to 6-7/10, after recently reading Adolf (1/2) and Dororo. His sexist cartoony non-ending thing ALWAYS ruins his work, but the ideas - if nothing else - behind his stories are too interesting to be ignored. |
