| Frieren: Beyond the Romcom's End (except it isn't funny nor romantic) |
| Good episode once again. The date was very much what I expected from Fern and Stark but it was wholesome to still watch. There was a tinge of awkwardness throughout with their inexperience and reliance on Frieren as their sole conversation starter, but at least they did manage to enjoy their date in the end as they were more themselves by then. Did expect Stark to get a gift to make up for Fern losing out on the other one that a different couple bought in the end but it's fine for now. She was wearing two of Stark's gifts already. The second part was more simple but does show the Northern Plateau as a much more annoying environment to explore with the consistent presence of danger to look out for in the range of monsters there. The usual Himmel flashback at least was nice, it is nice to take an easier path but the adventure itself would help them grow and to protect people in the Northern Plateau who live their lives there and have too much history tied in there to just leave was cool. Fitting for a hero. Action was good as usual too, I do think season 1 looks cleaner and more consistent as far as the action has gone but this season still looks more than solid. Feels weird that we are nearly halfway through this season already. I really hope there is a part 2 since this feels way too short for my liking compared to the 28 episode run that the first one got. Keep in mind, when season 1 aired, the first 4 episodes came out all at once. And this time, it took a month AND it's already close to halfway through the run time. |
| While Fern and Stark's date was a bit awkward as I figured it would be it did turn out good at the end especially after Stark explained that he was trying to follow Frieren's suggested plan. Also, Fern looked cute in that dress of hers and it's a shame that Stark did not compliment her, hopefully next time. The northern plateau is no joke and I'm surprised that people like the guy that gave Frieren's group a room lives there with kids (how have they not been attacked and killed yet?) Anyways, good thing that the gang is going through there to help clear out monsters to protect people's homes, just like how Himmel would've done. |
| Hmmm a purposely disappointing date for a callback to Himmel...I guess we shouldn't expect anything different at this point (makes their dance episode from season 1 that much better). I do like how Fern dresses like a girl who was raised by an old priest and an even older elf. Looks like the northern plateau is going to be non-stop action. With such powerful monsters the question I have isn't why people live there but how? Doesn't look like it would take long for that thing to have taken out most of the people himself, what would have stopped it if it took a party as powerful as Frieren's to take it out? |
| A good man said once, "Just start dating already", and so they did. Fern and Stark's dynamic has been a joy to watch from the beginning of the series, and it's slowly building up into something. Their first date was awkward, and Stark was so nervous that he couldn't be himself around her. Luckily, it's the thought that mattered to Fern. Of course, the parallels to Frieren and Himmel's date were exactly what I expected to see. The Northern Plateau seemed like a very dangerous area, and if that was just the start of it, the gang is in for something formidable for sure. |

Ofcourse stark had a present ready, ferns 2nd gift from him. :3 also yea mandatory himmel flashback ofc it wouldnt be complete without him. |

| Stark and Fern's date went mostly how I thought it would go. It's something that they haven't done before, compared to simply travelling around from place to place with Frieren, so the exchange of chatting between the two was awkward and hesitant here and there. But it's things like this that makes for an enjoyable watch for myself in seeing how both Fern and Stark do something new and learn from it. Watching them chat next to each other while watching the sunset and reflecting on their first date and how Frieren's influence played a part had them smiling and laughing compared to how nervous and stiff they both felt earlier on during their date. If they have a future date, then I can see the both of them feeling more relaxed and being more expressive. Also, Fern's chosen dress on the date was very cute! After that, we got back on the road and hitting up the Northern Plateau and it certainly wasn't holding back with the amount of monsters the trio had to deal with, even in the rest spots, too. It does make me respect the villagers who live in this area, including one where our trio helped them out by taking out a rather tricky enemy which made them struggle a bit. The fight itself was brilliantly animated and it was satisfying to see how Frieren, Fern and Stark all played their part to win the fight. I see future monster fights being at least this tough or even more difficult, so this will be good experience for both Fern and Stark to take into their next battles. |

I'm really disappointed with Stark. If only he could put it in words about how we feels about Fern. She was looking so cute in the dress. Stark could have thrown in some compliments to make her feel happy. He was so focused on following Frieren's date plan that he failed miserably to be himself around her. But Fern was able to appreciate the efforts that Stark had put into to make this date an enjoyable one for her.

| Literally gasped when Stark made Fern leave that jewellery shop without buying the necklace she wanted. He seemed to rush her everywhere & didn't even think to share food with her. He's a good person, but man is he such an aloof, thick-headed being when it comes to women. It's a great reward for him that Fern appreciated him trying & was in a good mood, other than that, it looked like such a terrible date. |

| Once again I’m left crying after a frieren episode. Fern and Stark’s date was everything I could’ve asked for. Even though it didn’t go “perfectly” , the two of them spent time together and had fun and that’s all that matters. The ideal date is just spending time with the person you love, you don’t need to over complicate things or plan everything meticulously. I never get tired of seeing the comparisons between frieren and Himmel and Fern x stark as well. Hopefully it doesn’t take them 80 years to realize how they feel about each other lmao. I LOVE how overprotective Stark is of Fern as well 😩 he locks in so quickly whenever she’s threatened in a fight. It’s amazing how your desire to protect those you care about can overpower fear so quickly |

| Great ep Date was calm. That boi Stark moving in frames. Nervous asf. 😭 Even Fern falling as well. These two are both klutz whether they like it or not. Love how the progression of their romance is going smooth, but slowly. The way that they expand on the mini fights never cease to amaze me. Even the big demon battle looked great. This ep adapted the last two pages of ch 66, 67-68. Lol, Stark's legs really gave out. 9.5/10 |

| a little better thx to the date, which was still as boring as the whole show at least Frieren braids were really animated differently, so they can have some attention to details sometimes? too bad only from ep4.. the fight was also way better than the previous one, better animated and there was even a hint of that monster being scared when Stark hit his tree he was holding if this would be like this from the start of season I could give it 7/10 by now, but one 8/10 episode won't make me rate it 10 like other simps on MAL |

| Fern looked so cute obviously even Stark will notice. My boy fumbled with the date. Both are way too awkward with each other. And that's fine honestly. Considering their characters it makes sense. He tried to hard to please her but still Fern didn't mind, well next time he will do better. But grown ass basement dwelling adults here lecturing Stark about date in a anime forum lmaoo😭😭 So Playtimes over now? The monster fight was amazing, Stark was amazing to pin that thing down. | Stark and Fern’s date was pretty nice after all the buildup to it, it was awkward as hell but nice lol, about how I thought a date between these two would go. Yeah Stark fumbled a bit by not doing a few things like commenting on Fern’s outfit (he said she was cute, but in his head lol), and there was the necklace bit too, but hey there’s always next time, no one is perfect on their first date after all, that and it ended positively with Fern appreciating Stark’s effort. And now the gang have found themselves deeper into the northern lands with much more dangerous monsters present, so they won’t be able to be as chill as they have been up to this point, which was especially evident from the fight with the monster that was keeping merchants and adventurers away from that village, it was a very good looking fight too. I’d say Fern, Stark and Frieren handled themselves well but there were a few close calls like when Stark caught Fern from flying into a tree, as well as Stark’s daring attempt to keep the monster in one place so Frieren could nuke it, which put him right in the path of her magic blast, thankfully Fern was quick with the shield there. So yeah it’s gonna be a bit tougher from here on out, should be interesting to see what other monster encounters they get into going forward. And a few other things I wanted to mention, I liked that line from Himmel about enjoying the process even if things don’t go as you wanted, I’m a big advocator of “it’s about the journey, not the destination” myself so I related a lot to that. The thing about protecting people’s homelands was nice too, if they didn’t choose to go through the northern lands then that monster would still be causing problems after all. |

| DEEEEETOOOOOOOOOOOO. How cute this couple is. This date ended well. Stark's honest feelings made Fern happy. Even though today's date was very un-Stark-like, they were both confused about how to act on their first date. It was very awkward, and that's what I like about it, it's very realistic. As Sein said, "just get together already." Damn it, every time Himmel appears, my eyes get teary. The words Himmel speaks always manage to give me goosebumps and make me emotional. Nice fight at the end. "I want to be a hero because I want to protect my home, and therefore I also want to protect their homes." |
| Forgot to add ep3 last Friday??? Anyway this ep was fair long, covered the date, instead of skipping it. Felt wholesome by that mini arc. While the travels north were too quick, not much strain on the adventurer party. |

| Is this.. PEAK ROMANCE? I found it really cute how Fern was initially disappointed with her date with Stark, because it wasn't feeling authentic. It's really cute how she, in a way, knew that the places they went to and how the date was structured didn't feel like it was something Stark would do. So Stark coming forth and saying that it was Frieren who helped him in preparing the date made Fern happier about it, because that feeling of not being authentic was replaced by the fact that Stark took his time and worried about what would she like when preparing the date, which just made her enjoy it more. The final moment where they start cloud watching was also really cute, especially when in season 1 Fern was surprised when Stark started doing, and even saying she wouldn't know how "to react to it", but this time around, it was her who started noticing the shapes of the clouds. The end of the date might have not been what Fern was expecting, but the whole experience certainly made it a valuable memory for her. It was also cute the moment where Stark ends up finding Fern cute. Like Sein would say, "JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY". But honestly, I'm all in for the slow burn romance between Fern and Stark, to teenagers exploring what they feel towards each other. It's why they never really have any topic for discussion, besides talking about Frieren, they were just never used to talking to someone where they have this "new" feeling. And this just shows how Frieren can perfectly execute any genre. One of the best romances in anime, alongside the romance between Frieren and Himmel too. In the 2nd half of the episode we finally have our trio enter the Northern Lands that was closed off only to 1st class Mages, which Fern now is, thanks to what happened in the end of the 1st season. And wow, it really is dangerous. How there are still people alive in those areas is a mystery honestly. Fern, Frieren and Stark had a though time against that monster, but thanks to that we got another really cool fighting scene, and the trio also realized they need to work on their teamwork. It was really cool of Stark to jump on top of the monster to immobilize it, so Frieren could kill it, it just goes to show how much he has improved since the 1st season, and also how he might be afraid, but always comes when things are bad to help other people. Also, let's appreciate the moment where Stark protects his girl Fern from that blow of the monster towards her. He was like "Don't touch my girl". Totally valid the fact that Stark wasn't able to stand after all that, almost getting hit by one of Frieren's attack is terrifying. I need a daily dose of Frieren by this point, and what do you mean I'm only getting 6 more episodes of Frieren? That in 6 weeks my weekly dose of Frieren is ending? I'm not ready for that, and I'm suffering from antecipation already. Edit: I could not include a screenshot showcasing the iconic date we all have been waiting for |

| Ok so the date is on, and Fern is shown dressing up and doing her hair and even nice shoes. But when they finally meet, you can hear a pin drop.. with a thud. The outing was perfunctory, both of them were mechanical, and things proceeded with no emotion. In a way you could try to defend Stark by saying Fern hasn't shown him much compassion.. but that's not even true. She clearly likes him, whether she says so outloud or not; and he just looks down at her and says "Oh those aren't your normal clothes, let's go over here" then stalks off. "Oh those shoes are hard to walk in" so this is like the first episode of a 25 episode long romance anime where neither of them know how to communicate. Except it's not a 25 episode romance anime, it's like the 30th-odd episode and they have been together a long time. Dude acted like a tool. The second half of the episode had all these really cheesy looking monsters. T-Rex's seriously? The goofy dinosaurs and bats and that terrible demon thing that looks like a snow-monster really felt comical. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, but the guy in the house that talked to them obviously has something to do with all those monsters. He's probably a demon but I guess we find out next episode. (Or never see him again, this is So-so No Frieren after all) 3/5 would be higher if Stark wasn't such a dope. |
