Seihantai na Kimi to Boku

Next to Miyu Suzuki, a trendy and bubbly high school girl, sits Yuusuke Tani, a quiet and frank boy. Their interactions are brief, limited to Suzuki's unprompted random questions and Tani's succinct answers. Yet, beneath these simple exchanges, feelings of love are quietly blossoming.

Suzuki sees Tani for who he is: a straightforward boy who respects everyone equally, completely unconcerned about fitting in. Unlike Tani, she is too hung up on what everyone else thinks, desperate to keep her crush a secret. However, a slight misunderstanding leads to Suzuki confessing her feelings—and to her delight, Tani feels the same. Jittery with excitement, the young couple starts dating, embarking on a wonderful journey of friendship and love.

Preliminary (10/12 eps)

This anime is somewhat of an acquired taste. You either relate to it, or you don't. Romance titles with early confessions can be a hit or miss. However, I'm proud to announce that this anime scratches the all right parts. 'You and I Are Polar Opposites' tackles the dating phase like you've never seen it before. It captures the social cues, personal habits, and endearing traits that we often do (but rarely notice) on a day to day basis. You'd be surprised how many times you'll relate to a scene. Aside from the MCs, you also have a wonderful cast of characters with plenty of ... screentime. Everybody has their own thing going on. An entire episode could be dedicated to two of the side characters. Plus, we get to see how their relationship is going. Opposites do attract, and that trope has been reused across film and media. Luckily, this anime doesn't read like a hallmark episode. Part of the charm about Tani and Suzuki's dynamic isn't because they're "opposites attract." It's how they navigate the social conventions surrounding their relationship. Knowing what is, and isn't appropriate to do with your partner, knowing how to behave in front of friends, etc. Unlike other romance titles, this show can serve as a practical guideline for real life couples. It teaches you the importance of having proper communication channels (e.g., how to communicate with your partner, and how to handle your emotions properly). Maybe that's the reason why the side characters have plenty of screentime. It's because our MCs aren't beating around the bush for eight or nine episodes. The title is called "polar opposites" because the anime is the polar opposite of Rent-a-Girlfriend. Because unlike Rent-a-girlfriend, the characters here are likeable, the MC isn't a degenerate loser, and the relationship is actually going somewhere. This is not your typical romance anime. Realistic communication and social conventions are actually applied here. If you're someone who likes to "relate" to things, then this might be something you'll enjoy.

Mixed Feelings

Typical high school romance. Everyone is a total amateur with over-the-top reactions. I like it, but I’d like more than just a run-of-the-mill story full of stereotypical characters with simplistic thinking. Personally, I’d like the characters to be more self-assured, not have unnecessary and over-the-top reactions, know how to hold hands, kiss, and give and receive compliments without blushing like tomatoes for no reason, not be unnecessarily jealous, go on dates, but not to cliché places like the movie theater, a pastry shop, the library, the beach, an amusement park, various festivals, and so on. It would be nice to have something that feels more ... like real life, because I don’t believe that such awkward behavior is normal.
I don't remember anyone acting so awkward back when I was in high school. It was always natural—it was clear who was interested in whom and who was dating whom, without all that awkward drama about whether he loved me or I loved him. Whenever I was around a couple, there was a normal atmosphere where there were no signs of doubt, and conversations were completely natural. Literally, girls could sit on guys’ laps without any awkwardness and kiss them, hug them, or hold hands—just normal things that are part of a relationship—without feeling embarrassed that others were watching. I don’t understand why the Japanese can’t create true romance without us seeing the same formula over and over again. Is it really that hard to include characters who know what they want without us having to listen to their indecisive monologues?
The characters philosophize way too much over trivialities, which ended up boring me. The art/animation is good and I liked the OP/ED, but in the end, the plot bored me.

We have two MCs, loud and hyper (Suzuki )and quiet, silent one liner( Tani)
She overreacts to everything, he barely reacts at all, and the show keeps repeating this same interaction .( In reality this is the entire story)

After their first date in first episode the entire show basically goes on repeat mode. Every episode follows the same pattern. Suzuki says something loud or awkward, Tani gives a dry response, they have a small “cute” moment, and then it ends. There is no progression in their relationship. No new layer, no change in dynamic. Just the same behavior looped again and again like ... the writer ran out of ideas after episode one.

Side characters don’t help either. They are just there to fill time and repeat the same “wow you two are so different” reaction. None of them add anything meaningful to the story. ( They're just side characters of horimiya show , who have their own love stories in the background, blush , getting nervous like our main characters that's all you can say it's on repeat.

The anime tries to look mature and grounded, but it just ends up feeling bland and lifeless. No spark, no emotional weight, nothing that makes you invested.

Animation is colorful with Bright colors, clean design, Voice acting is fine, but even that can’t save how one note these characters are. Suzuki becomes annoying after a point, and Tani feels like he’s half asleep the entire time.

The worst part is how it markets itself as something fresh. It tricks you into expecting something new, but what you actually get is a repetitive, flavorless romance that goes nowhere.

In the end, it’s like eating the same tasteless meal every episode.
You finish it and realize nothing actually happened, nothing changed, and nothing mattered.

Plenty of better romcoms exist. This one is just boring, repetitive trash pretending to be mature. ( Two NPCs going on a date one is loud, one is silent. They go on dates, blushing, and that's All)
