One Piece Fan Letter

Although the golden age of piracy is about to reach new heights, most people do not seek the glory of finding the elusive One Piece—a treasure signifying a new conqueror of all seas that was once embodied by the legendary King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger. However, even if civilians generally despise pirates, they secretly cheer for at least one of them.

One red-headed girl from Sabaody Archipelago is no exception: She reveres Nami, the ingenious female navigator of Monkey D. Luffy's Straw Hat crew. Determined to deliver a fan letter to her idol, the Sabaody child is prepared to challenge forces of authority who strive to prevent Luffy and his friends from departing for their next destination: the New World. But to succeed, Nami's fan may need to risk her life and interfere with the Marines' plans, potentially causing devastating consequences for the wider world.

One Piece Fan Letter is a project that has been begging to be made for a while now. A short spinoff about some relatively inconsequential characters within the One Piece universe and how their lives have been affected by the Straw Hats’ upending the world order feels like a no-brainer in hindsight and fills the same niche as something like Twilight Wings or PokéToon does for the Pokémon franchise. The main protagonist’s unbridled admiration for Nami carries the age-old shounen theme of inspiring the next generation with incredibly moving and uplifting narrative drive, while the pair of Marine brothers placed as foils against Luffy and ... Ace showcases the destructive power of Devil Fruit users and how seemingly miniscule the average soldier is by comparison, and the many cameo appearances from the Straw Hats and other One Piece regulars provide excellent comedic relief to pump you with just enough fan service without distracting from the anime original characters.
The true power of this episode, however, lies in its absolutely impeccable visual presentation. Lavish color choices, flexible yet immediately iconic character designs, intriguing visual symbolism, and jaw-dropping action all come together to craft a nonstop brilliant piece of animation. This is, quite simply, one of the best-looking things I’ve seen the entire year, representing One Piece as a whole perfectly in its creativity and ambition. Truth be told, the only reason it isn’t higher on this list is because I’m not quite as big a One Piece fan as its core base is, and so it didn’t fully move me with the same intensity as the aforementioned Pokémon spinoffs, but the fact that I still gushed about it this much shows how masterfully it executed this idea and how ripe for narrative exploration the world of One Piece is.

extremely over hyped. uh yeah this is just cool animations nothing more really, it has a shallow story but you can't expect much. (no pedo shit which makes it already makes it better anything post time skip has to offer)

Positives: it is a very visually pleasing OVA and I think its cool to contextualize the story from an ordinary Jim in the world.

Negatives: too short for the story they are trying to give so the story suffers and feels half assed, its tied to the One Piece, the cuts feel too hectic at points to just get some story then they give us a ... long ass nothing burger cuts, adds nothing really to the story.

I'm not a One Piece enjoyer anymore but this was a cool watch

A conceited, arbitrary, self-congratulatory piece of work designed for the main character to roleplay as the literal manifestation of a one piece fan that got isekaid to the grand line. I'm sure some people will find it absolutely thrilling when she spends the entire time talking about how great the straw hat pirates are and literally decided to risk it all to reinforce the underlying message of the entire episode: one piece and its fans will save the world!

There's a scene where some people talk about who is the strongest and Sanji suggests that they can't talk about Zolo without talking about Sanji but then ... they dismiss his opinion by saying "[Sanji's] bounty is lower than Zoro's." You literally cannot make this stuff up.

Every character looks like they were drawn in ms paint with the bucket fill tool. They throw in some random lens flares and lightning halfway through the episode so the art looks a little less one note.

Didn't notice any good music, they should have brought back the classic YO HO HO HE TOOK A BITE OF GUM GUM.
