Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2

For centuries, humanity has been hunted by giant, mysterious predators known as the Titans. Three mighty walls—Wall Maria, Rose, and Sheena—provided peace and protection for humanity for over a hundred years. That peace, however, was shattered when the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan appeared and destroyed the outermost wall, Wall Maria. Forced to retreat behind Wall Rose, humanity waited with bated breath for the Titans to reappear and destroy their safe haven once more.

In Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2, Eren Yeager and others of the 104th Training Corps have just begun to become full members of the Survey Corps. As they ready themselves to face the Titans once again, their preparations are interrupted by the invasion of Wall Rose—but all is not as it seems as more mysteries are unraveled. As the Survey Corps races to save the wall, they uncover more about the invading Titans and the dark secrets of their own members.

This is honestly one of the most emotionally overwhelming anime I’ve ever watched. From the very beginning, it hits you with this heavy, powerful atmosphere that never really lets go. I was probably the most emotional watching this compared to anything else. Every twist, every loss, every reveal felt like a punch straight to the heart. There were moments where I just had to pause because the emotions were too much, yet I still couldn’t stop watching. What makes it so incredible is how perfectly everything fits together: the storytelling, the world‑building, the characters, the music, the tension. It’s dark, intense, and heartbreaking, but also ... unbelievably captivating. Even when it hurt, I loved every second of it. For me, Attack on Titan is a true masterpiece. The kind of series that stays with you long after you finish it.

Mixed Feelings

The sequel certainly builds upon season 1. With surprisingly high, but still a marginal amount of questions answered.

The plot itself follows a semi-non-chronological order (namely parallel storytelling) but remains easy to follow, thanks to the coherence it holds throughout. The events are fairly intriguing and advance the story at a relatively well-maintained pace.

The characters do not develop much, but stay true to the traits established in season 1.

The worldbuilding, a significant problem in season 1, received a substantial upgrade. It not only answered some questions but also attempted to fill in plot holes. Several questionable decisions were reconsidered and, while still problematic, were at least ... given a rationale.

The biggest virtue of the season is undoubtedly its portrayal of human reactions to extreme events. It is logical, realistic, and intrinsically human.
The show does not shy away from portraying mass murderers as such and even calling them out on it. There are revelations and even a verbal promise of impending punishment for their sins—something much awaited for the arc's completion.
Another example is the depiction of how atrocious events affect the human psyche, making the perpetrators' subsequent actions not only more understandable but also showing how their own sins impact them—offering a partial remedy for the audience.

A very competent but pointed portrayal that improved upon the lackluster season 1, though it still carried many of its weaknesses.
It certainly satisfies a very specific type of curiosity, but beyond that, it does not offer much else.

Also, just a more subjective part, but currently the setups are fairly simple and easy, this isn’t inherently a flaw—it creates a sense of stability that holds the audience in a lull of predictability. However, it raises an intriguing question: will this predictability persist, or are the creators preparing to pull the rug out from under the audience?

My god what a snoozefest.

The first season of this show was overrated enough but the fact that this season is almost in the top 100 highest rated anime of all time is hilarious. Eren's whining is as insufferable as ever, the few cool characters like Mikasa and Levi don't get enough screentime and scenes feel severely dragged out. Nevermind that, the show expects you to care about characters that haven't been fleshed out which is the greatest sin of all.

I might force myself to watch season 3 since people hype it up so much but man I'm begging AoT fans to watch their 2nd ... anime.
