Final Sea Peoples post, the command stands. All 28mm Wargames Foundry miniatures with the one exception of a Miniature Design Studios archer. Painting is now focussing not the next Bronze Age army, the Mycenaeans. I've had a slow week, lots of life things needing my attention, so the first batch of Mycenaeans are still on the basing table, along with my Republican Romans and some Mortal Gods stuff (very precise there!). I have made a start on painting the first Newline Miniatures Mycenaeans and I've increased the batch size from 24 to 32 figures to make up for my lack of activity this week. So, I hope to show the first of the Mycenaeans off soon…watch this space!

Sea Peoples - Sherden
More 28mm Sea Peoples, this time miniatures representing the Sherden contingent from Wargames Foundry, and instantly recognisable by their horned helmets. The Sherden attacked Egypt during the reign of Rameses II around 1175 BC, and these ferocious people were later present in the forces of the Egyptian New Kingdom being used as bodyguards by the Pharaohs.
The Sherden have historically been seen as one of the nine groups that form part of the confederacy of Sea Peoples, with their origins traditionally being identified as Sardinia. There are numerous alternative theories about the origins of the Sherden. A theory put forward by the historian Michael Wood is that they are in fact Mycenaeans left free to raid with impunity after the collapse of Minoan stability. Other theories are that the Sherden originated from the Levantine coast, or in Asia Minor where associations with the Sardinian plain and the city of Sardis have been drawn. A recent theory by Dimitri Antonio Vallejo has proposed that the Sherden are in fact native inhabitants of the Nile Delta, and as such are not culturally linked to the Sea Peoples at all, this theory sees them taking advantage of the general disruption caused by the Sea Peoples to raid and attack Egypt. What we do know is that the Sherden eventually became assimilated into Egyptian society. For the sake of wargaming I'm still going to classify my Sherden as Sea Peoples, but it makes an interesting case for a Sherden army perhaps allied with Libyans.
If anyone is interested in exploring the origins of the Sherden, I can thoroughly recommend reading Who are the Sherden reassessing the identity of the ancient Sherden ‘Sea Peoples’, 1300-900 BCE by Dimitri Antonio Vallejo, Columbia University please find the link below:

Sea Peoples - Ekwesh, Weshwesh and Lukka
More Sea Peoples, this time figures from Wargames Foundry representing the Ekwesh, Weshwesh and Lukka. This contingent will add two units for Impetus and Hail Caesar or four for ADLG.
Progress continues on the Mycenaeans, basing will start on the first units this weekend, and hopefully I'll also make a start on the Newline Designs figures. A little bit behind schedule this week as I've been helping a friend move house and get their furniture purchased and built. It was while looking for furniture with my friend that I was in the British Heart Foundation charity shop and spotted an old writing bureau. This piece immediately called to me to save it and repurpose as a painting station. I've cleaned it up and will provide and update and pictures in another post once I've made a small modification. Very kindly my friend gave me the desk as a thank you for helping them. A very happy painter indeed.

Sea Peoples - Peleset, Tjekker and Denven
28mm Sea Peoples from Wargames Foundry and Miniature Design Studios, these figures represent the Peleset, Tjekker and Denven, being characterised by their reed headdresses. Included are warband, skirmishers and archers. Probably the most recognisable are the Peleset, who also appear to be the tribe most associated with the Philistines, and I'm happy to field figures in reed headdresses as Philistines in a DBA or Basic Impetus game.
Currently painting Mycenaeans, and as I’m painting in 24 figure batches, I feel like I’m speeding through these figures. I’ve just finished all the Foundry foot I have and am moving on to chariots and the Newline Designs contingent. Other projects on the workbench also include some rebasing and some bits and pieces for Mortal Gods. The figures being rebased are my Republican Romans, which are being rebased for SAGA, this has stalled slightly as I needed to order more bases.
