SAGA Magic Army

Eventually got my SAGA Magic force ready for action. The Warlord is the beautiful Freyja model mounted on the wild boar Hildisvini from Bad Squidoo Games as is my favourite piece the Norse Witch on Moose, as are the angry tree stumps which I will post better pictures at a later date. The Tree Herder is from Mantic Games. Some supernatural creature additions are from the Flint and Feather range by Crucible Crush, and finally the Satyrs, Brownies and Sprites were from Alien Dungeon originally for Fanticide

All flock and tufts on these models are from WWScenics, who do a superb range.

Big moves afoot in the SAGA world, with the preorders open for the next universe: Hannibal, which includes SAGA Epic a way to play bigger games at 12-18 points, something a number of us in the local club are looking forward to. The Punic wars have always been an interest of mine, so I was excited at the announcement and place my preorder without delay. Currently I'm starting to rebase my Republican Roman army in anticipation of being able to play. If I did have one unfulfilled wish for a new SAGA universe it would be a Biblical setting, I'm quietly hoping that this is one that will be considered in the future.

I addition to the new SAGA release, I've also been seduced by the latest offering from Too Fat Lardies that is Infamy Infamy. My Ancient British army is in the process of being rebased and having some minor running repairs made such as replacing the old white metal spears with wire ones. More will follow on both these new projects as they develop. It is unusual for me to have figures ready to go (well almost) for a  new set of rules. Also in the news of upcoming rules I noticed that there's a Crusades version of Lion Rampant on the cards, this is another one that has piqued my interest as it will fit in nicely with my existing plans. I have boxes of figures wanting for my attention to build SAGA warbands for the Crusades, and an Italo-Norman army, probably for Impetus which is another rule set I want to have a look at. So busy times ahead, hopefully I'll be able to get into a productive hobby mode once my dissertation and final assignment have been completed in the forthcoming months.

INCOMING!!!

Finally the Toy Story opponents for the Minions in the Battle of the Sand Box. I'll be adding a few more soldier units as the Minions have received some further reinforcements this week. I haven't yet decided on stats for Dragon Rampant, but will be along the lines of the Minion force, perhaps Woody, Bullseye and Jessie being Elite cavalry? Buzz will have Flying ability, of course....and maybe shooting with lasers?

Also photographed are some the terrain I've got ready, a part buried Pringles tube, and some children's wooden blocks, these were off eBay, but I've since seem some similar in the local supermarket going cheap. I'm also thinking of wandering terrain in the form of a discarded crisp packet roaming the battlefield, direction to be decided by D10 for distance and direction by scatter dice.

BANANAS!!!!

Apologies for the shortage of posts recently, as I haven't been feeling particularly well. So as a surprise I thought I'd return with a little project I've been assembling for the girls to allow them to fight the Battle of the Sandpit, these will be 2 forces for Dragon Rampant; the first is the Minions, and the second will be Toy Story based.
Rough points ideas are included in captions, I'm still thinking of terrain ideas, I have some ready such as alphabet blocks, and discarded crisp packets. Other hazards might include an area of foul smelling boggy ground called the cat trap!
I was hoping to have the game ready for the girls to play over half term holidays, but I'm waiting for the Toy Story forces to arrive. The good news is that once they do it'll take very little time to get them ready for battle.

Servants of Ra

Something of a departure from my usual stuff, a starter company: The Servants of Ra for the Steam Punk skirmish game In Her Majesty's Name available from NorthStar Miniatures

As usual I'm more than a little late to the party in taking up this game or anything on 'trend'. I've had the miniatures in the lead pile since they were released, and lovely as they are I had no immediate drive to paint them up. Something of a shiny brain purchase! My recent motivation to paint them stems from the establishment of a small local gaming group which will hopefully grow now that we have found a "free" location, yes "free", from small acorns and such.....we will see!

The figures really are a nice little set, lovely castings that paint up a treat. The starter company consists of Professor Abdul Abulbul Abir, described as a fanatical Turkish Egyptologist. It was this character that drew me to this faction as it appealed to my degree in Archaeology and History. Also included is the reincarnated spirit of Akhenaton; the Professors beautiful daughter Sairah, a Mummified Priest and the all important cultists of Akhenaton. I particularly like the cultists which are suitably menacing minions that would grace any pulp genre game.

And so, Akhenaton's plans for world domination begin.....

Cyclopean War Beasts and Warband

Some further additions to my Cyclopean war band for Dragon Rampant, these are converted GW models that I picked up on eBay. Green stuff was used to add fur and the all important single eye. Below are pictures of the complete war band, well for now, I'll probably add a bit more...

Cyclopean Beasties

The finished bases of Cyclopean Beasties for Dragon Rampant. The figures are converted Games Workshop Squiggs being driven onwards by young cyclops figures from Four A Miniatures. I've enjoyed putting this little group together, though it has taken longer than anticipated, mostly due to other painting commitments. Just have to figure out how to classify them in the rules...
