Late Roman Archers

28mm Late Romans from Wargames Foundry. Welcome addition to my Lion Rampant/SAGA force and despite the age of these sculpts I do love these figures.

Painting has slowed a bit this past week due to being unwell. I'm still working on the Jacobite project and have finished the first batch of Government Dragoons and Lowland foot, currently on the second batch. A sale by Warbases coincided with my looking for suitable buildings, so I placed an order for some of their 15mm buildings from the Border Reiver range which are suitable for the Jacobite Uprising. I'll post up some pictures once I've built them.

Late Roman Infantry 3

More 28mm Late Romans, lovely Crusader Miniatures. Based up for Lion Rampant and Saga, though they may get a run out in Midgard in the future, who knows!

The Jacobite project has taken on a life of its own. My original plans were for two small armies to play Warfare in the Age of Reason. Then thoughts of refighting Culloden emerged, it was always going to happen and I was deluding myself otherwise. Interestingly, I haven't been able to find a 15mm flag for Clan Cameron, fortunately it's easy enough to do. Now the project is starting to stray into provincial regiments such as the Derbyshire Blues and the Georgia Rangers which weren't in my plans at all. I already have some figures suitable for the Georgia Rangers and it's a small outlay to do the Derbyshire Blues. Added to that I know that I have a few packs of Blue Moon French somewhere, that I picked up along the way just in case I wanted to do a French Seven Years War army, as you do!
I'm on Annual Leave next week, so I'll be making a start on basing the figures that I've painted. Hopefully I'll get some pictures out if all goes to plan.

There's been a slight distraction, as I'm also prepping for a game next Thursday. This will be Anglo-Zulu War using The Men Who Would be Kings rules. Hopefully, I'll manage to take some pictures and write up a report. A lot will depend on the light.

Monks, a Priest and a Bishop

Painted these earlier in the year, 28mm from Gripping Beast (Monks and the Celtic Priest) and Footsore (The Bishop).

The week has seen me plodding along with my Jacobite Rebellion project. The Irish Piquets, Baggots Hussars and The Prince have been finished, just another 80 or so highlanders to paint and then I can be happy that the clans have gathered. Flags have arrived from Northumbrian Painting Service which moves me a step closer to starting basing.

Pict War Dogs

28mm Pict war dogs from Footsore Miniatures, well mostly...one dog was short when I came to paint them up and I managed to find a stray from Gripping Beast to join the pack.

Managed to play a game of Lion Rampant last weekend where my Picts and Early Saxons joined forces to take on a Viking force. I'll add pictures next post.
Currently on the painting table are some 15mm Jacobite Rebellion. I'm painting two armies up, very quickly to use with Warfare in the Age of Reason. I have 2 weeks off work coming up, and the plan is to have both armies complete.

Late Roman Infantry 2

More Late Romans, 28mm Crusader Miniatures to provide some opponents for my Picts. Units will be 12 figures strong for Lion Rampant. I've had a productive week making mdf kits from TT Combat, there will be pictures soon. The aim is to have a reasonable set up for a WWII game. So far I've managed to make 9 buildings, they're still in the raw mdf. I'm going to prime with a sealer and see what they look like with a basic paint job. As a consequence of getting stuck into the mdf there's been no figure painting done again this week. If I get carried away I might even make a start on the SCI-FI kits, though I think I've another 8 or 9 to make for WWII first. I've found it quite therapeutic once I got started.

Alan Cavalry

Additions to my Late Rome collection. Alan cavalry, 15mm Forged in Battle miniatures. I decided to go with a simple rawhide shield colour to reflect their nomadic nature. These will form part of their own army for Basic Impetus. The last few weeks have been difficult with an ear infection, appears to be clearing now, so I feel like doing something in the eveningsother than sleep. The sun is shining and it's hot as I type this post, I have two hanging baskets to make this afternoon and some figures to paint. After that I think I'll have earned a nice cold beer!

Pict Chieftain in Chariot

Every army needs a commander. 28mm Pictish Chieftain in a chariot by Gripping Beast. Despite best plans I haven't managed to have a game this month.
On the painting table currently is the mystery project and some  28mm WWII American infantry for Chain of Command 2.

Pict Warriors I

A small group of Pictish Warriors, 28mm figures from Footsore Miniatures. I've opted for a simple painting style for the  plaid and a limited palette.
Other news, I've found a box of painted WWII American infantry that I'd forgotten I'd painted. I think it must have been back in 2017? A few additions and I will have an opponent to field against my Germans in Chain of Command 2.
I've also been slightly distracted from my Picts by a mini project, and the first batch of figures are underway. No details as yet, but I will say these are old miniatures from a classic range from a very well known manufacturer. In their day they were the go to figures for this particular subject and I've always wanted to paint some. So, all in all good news as I've got a gaming table set up and I'm back painting!
