Spanish Militia and Guerilla Recruits

It's been a little while since I posted an update on me Peninsula Napoleonic project. My initial thoughts were that I'd only build opposing sets for Sharp Practice 2, but as I've started painting I can easily see these being incorporated into a larger Napoleonic collection... must resist, stay on plan (well that's the good side, the one I always pay attention to!).

The latest offering consists of 12 recently painted recruits that can either serve as Militia or Guerillas in my Spanish forces. The figures are 28mm Eagle Figurines, the painting style I've chosen for the project as a whole is a simple one with a gloss finish. I feel gloss works better than a matt finish with a basic painting style.

In the pictures below I've included some group photos of my Spanish Militia/Guerilla forces.

Spanish Militia Part 2

As the UK is experiencing an arctic blast this weekend I thought I'd offer up a little something from warmer climes. Spanish Napoleonic Militia have been recruiting with another 12 figures completed and added. These are 28mm Eagle Figures, still lacking flags (apologies), but starting to grow into a meaningful force. I chose to give these 12 recruits a slightly more uniform appearance with a blue jacket to represent a degree of military training and reflect their militia status, I think they should mix in nicely with the previous figures painted in civilian colours.

Spanish Fusiliers Part 2

More Spanish Napoleonic Fusiliers, and a group shot to show progress to date. These are 28mm miniatures from Eagle Figures. I still have to order flags for this project, something I'll sort out in the New Year.

I'm pleased with the way these are turning out, feels like it's starting to take shape and look the part. I'm trying desperately to stay focused on finishing the skirmish set for the Spanish before working on the French, the 15mm ancients are helping in a strange way as it only takes a short time to paint a unit, I don't get distracted with 28mm units that can take days.

I also have to paint a flag for a unit of WSS French cavalry at some point, I've been delaying this for far too long, I'm hoping to get it done over the Christmas break. It also involves painting a few flags for several planned units, I find this a nice change from painting figures but it takes me a little time to decide what to do and plan to make the most of the cotton material I use for the printer.

Spanish Guerillas

My Spanish Napoleonic forces continue to grow, and I feel any Peninsula skirmish set needs certain troops, one is definitely some Spanish Guerillas. These are 28mm from Eagle Figures, painted simply and with a gloss finish. I particularly like the three character miniatures, Senora,  Priest and Guerilla leader. More are needed to make up an effective fighting force in Sharp Practice 2, and they are currently on the painting table.

Apologies for the shadows on the pictures, I have very little opportunity at the moment to take pictures and have to go with whatever light I have when I get a chance to take some snaps. I've taken the view something is better than nothing .....

GrandManner Spanish Peninsula Building

The start of the latest batch of GrandManner buildings, this time as part of my Sharp Practice Peninsula project. All the pieces I'll be painting up were part of the discontinued sale run earlier in the year, and as I have plane for several Spanish/Mediterranean projects they were a must have purchase even if a little unplanned at the time. My first thoughts centre around the Napoleonic wars in the Peninsula, though I also have a hankering to do Carlist Wars and the Spanish Civil Wars (but not for some time yet).

Spanish Fusiliers

More of the lovely 28mm Spanish Napoleonic miniatures from Eagle Figures. This time the first batch of Fusiliers and a Spanish Officer.

Below I've also included a group shot with the Spanish Militia that I showed in a previous post, so that my forces for Sharp Practice can be seen together as they develop. I've also included the promised group shot with Warlord Games Portuguese and Wargames Foundry British, although there is a size difference I feel when viewed from a  height this isn't really as noticeable. In any case they will be fielded as separate forces in Sharp Practice.
