About Me

My photo
Retired, housewife, mother of three. Picking up the pieces after God decided the 145 year old farmhouse was no longer the house for us. Praise God for His mercy and love!

What. The. Heck.

What on earth is up with Blogger now? None of the comment areas are looking normal. I wish they would stop trying to 'improve' things. It is quite annoying.

That said, I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Thursday things in a row

Not joining anything. Just wanted to post a couple pictures...

DSC_0026Utility poles.

DSC_0030Farm sprinkler.

Not sure what it's called, haha.

DSC_0033Lane markers on the road.

And that's it. Just a few pictures from our trip in December.
Hope you all have a wonderful, blessed day!
P.S. I have noticed the last couple verification thingys have not had the black and white blob in them. I was actually able to type the 'words' (I use that term very loosely) the first time. Maybe Blogger decided to listen to the the users. Sort of. ;-)

I do not like Blogger's new Word verification system

It's annoying. And why do people have multiple verification? I know of one blog that has had problems.
I hate clicking reload multiple times, just so I can find one that I can read; only to have it come up bad and have to do it again.

And then they have to approve it, too!

Can't you just do one or the other?
Or neither.

I like the Word Verification free blogs. Thank you to all I read who have that. :o)

Blogger, to me, has a pretty good spam filter. I realize I'm pretty new at this, and I'm glad I haven't had to do that.
Just letting people know that there have been several posts I would have commented on, but I got tired of trying to do the verification so I didn't.

If you wonder why I'm not commenting, that's probably it.

Have a blessed Sunday. ♥

Wonder what it is, Wednesday - a day early.

I think this may be the last one for now, because I think I've run out of odd things for the time being.

Anyway, this is from our trip to the farm in May of last year.

I'm not sure how well you can see it, but in very nearly the direct center of the photo is a lighter green oblong object.

Which I now am pretty sure is the seed pod of a Wisteria vine. It looks like pods in the articles here, and here.

Wisteria has exploding pods, haha. I would like to see that.

I'm still sick, but I think I'm getting better because I'm not coughing as much.

If you want a bigger picture, try here. I think that's what I did last time.

Rain today and Thursday. Was 37 this morning. Mostly low 40s the rest of the morning.

Hope you're all doing well. Take care. ♥

So, I was awarded The Versatile Blogger Award...

I think I'm more of a barely blogger than a versatile blogger, but thank you for thinking so highly of me, Clint!

Here are the RULES for the Versatile Blogger Award-

1. Add the award to your blog.
2. Thank the blogger who gave it to you.
3. Mention seven random things about yourself. (see below)
4. List the rules.
5. Award to 15 bloggers.
6. Inform each of those 15 by leaving a comment on their blog.

So 7 more things about me.

1. I'm a pretty private person. I think that's why it's so hard for me to keep my blog updated.
2. I have a hard time talking to people I don't know. That's what I love about blogger.
3. I am anxious and nervous about our nearing retirement -- but I think you knew that.
4. Hubby is pretty much over his cold, but my head still feels pretty stuffed.
5. We celebrate our 38th anniversary this July. Where did the years go? It doesn't seem that long.
6. I will officially be on the Far Side of Fifty this year, too.
7. I hope to one day be as knowledgeable as Becky, The Canned Quilter, Gail, John, Thomas, my brother Wayne; or any of the many other blogs I read about gardening, farm life, animal raising, etc. A lot to learn, and God willing, I'll get there, too. :-)

So there you have it. 7 more things about me. Sort of.
I can't really pick 15 bloggers though because I love all the blogs I read; so if you read this, consider yourself awarded because you all deserve it!

Have a blessed Saturday!
We're headed out in a bit to visit with the Brother-in-law, go to Whole Foods, and do other things that you can do in the 'big city' (aka Raleigh, NC, here) that you can't do in the little towns that hubby and I prefer to call home. :-)

Wonder what it is, Wednesday

Running out of stuff. haha.
Remember this... vine?

I know I posted about it a year or so ago, but I can't find the post. Oh well. At any rate, I think I have identified it.

It is of the family Smilacaceae. (Shortened to Smilax.) Other names are Greenbrier, Cat brier, and Bristly Greenbrier and Hog Brier, among others. I think this one in particular is Smilax tamnoides, based on the picture here.

I found a lot of good information here: at Dave's Garden website; and from random Google searches as well.

The berries are blueblack, as shown at the previous web page, and here.

And, it may be related to the plant in the back yard, though I have never seen berries in the front yard.

In the summer, the berry clusters are green, very similar to this here:

That's a picture I took from the pasture, in May of last year. I had forgotten about it.
You can definitely see the resemblance to the purplish berries I showed you in earlier posts.
The Smilax has about a half dozen varieties of leaves, too, depending on which variety you have.

I don't believe I have seen spines on the one in the back yard, like the one in the first picture though.

Apparently parts of some plants are edible and some taste like asparagus, and is where sarsaparilla came from.

Sorry for all the rambling. I hope this post makes sense. Anyway, I am again interested in getting a professional opinion to see if my research will be proven accurate.

On another matter, my throat was terrible last night.
Got me some cantaloupe and yogurt today and I'm feeling better so far.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Is this a case of trying to be Politically correct?

A.C.E. ? B.C. E.?

I didn't even catch this on the news the other night until hubby (the one with laryngitis who shouldn't be talking) pointed it out to me.

After Current Events?

Really?

Which ones? What Current Event(s) do they refer to? I am confused.

I suppose all things should be changed so we offend no one? Is this really possible?

Somehow, I truly doubt it.

Have a wonderful, blessed Sunday, everyone. ♥

Another Wonder What it is Wednesday.

Because Google does not like me and I am clueless.

A few more pictures taken in December at the farm. These were all over the pasture. I think I saw a couple in the main yard, but they were larger and green so I don't think they were the same at all.

Hopefully this will be a link to the last picture, which I think is the best, but enlarged...

Have a blessed Wednesday. Hard to believe it's 70 degrees on the first day of February.
Okay. Lets try the link. again. This will take you to the photo where you can click on it and enlarge it. I hope. Hubby is home sick with a really bad cold that hit him like a ton of bricks last night. :/ He gets sick once a year, usually. Happy Thursday! :-)
