Another lily bloomed.

So I have pink, orange and white now. Just waiting for the last one to bloom. It bloomed first last year. Go figure. Ha!
If I remember right, I think it's red.
I'm happy to see these, but now something is killing my day lilies. They're just starting to bud. I don't know if it's the heat (it's 104 on the porch as I write this), or the other lilies or what.

Normally the day lilies take care of themselves and are fine and green all summer, so I am a bit clueless as to what is going on. Maybe I need to replant them a bit.

Happy Tuesday to you all!  :-)

What a trip

Lots of pictures. Mostly of before. All we did was mow, and we didn't get all that done. Lots of poison ivy, too.
Oh well. We did have really nice weather. Dry though. Which is good and bad. Made for lots of laundry.

This picture was taken at eye-level in the back yard after hubby had mowed a couple pathways. It's Johnson grass.

No back yard this trip. All my hard work to clear the back of the house. I guess I should be glad I can still see the back of the house.

I was excited when I saw what looked like peas. :)

There were hundreds, if not thousands of these all over the farm and pasture. But, as near as we can tell they are wild peas, which are poisonous and not field peas, which would be useful.

I was happy to see the bit of fence line that I cleared had remained clear. :)
Something to show for the poison ivy rash I had, haha!

You can see there, behind the pump house, no green on that little bit of fence there.

There were lots of HUGE thistles with spines that I wondered how they didn't puncture the mower tires.

There were a lot more than what I took pictures of. That's just to show you the size of the thistles.

I think I'll stop here for now.

Crazy weather around the country. Thoughts and prayers to all affected by the latest tornado in Missouri. ♥

Home again

So, we're home and there is a LOT to catch up on, both here on blog land, and at home.
My lily bloomed while I was gone. Fortunately, the blooms are still there so I will give you a picture, because I need to get going to do stuff, or I won't. ;-)
Blessed Sunday to you all! ♥

Almost Friday

We're heading back home tomorrow. Got a lot of mowing done. Would have done more, but we're trying to get rid of the Johnson grass before we move down here, so we did some spraying. I'm not real hot on that, but since we don't have anyone who can do the mowing any more, that's how we've decided to handle it.

It was kind of disappointing, but really not a surprise I guess, to see all the grass after almost nothing in February. The Johnson grass is like, 10-12 feet high in some places. And of course there are vines and poison ivy all over everything, too.

A handful of cattle egrets came to watch us mow the pasture. They wanted to be sure we did a good job and to help us with the little lizards and snakes and such. ;)
No pictures because it is way too dry and dusty right now to trust taking the camera out mowing, sorry. I did take pictures this trip. Not as many as other times; but I took some and I'll post them after we're home.

Those of you who have red dirt, is there anything in particular you need to do to increase the fertility? Do you just make compost, or do you put down lime, or what?
Inquiring minds want to know.  ;)

Happy Friday to you all!

Just a few hours to go.

Glad blogger finally decided to come back online.

I posted this to Wordpress, but I want to post here, too.

Just a few hours and we'll be on our way to the farm. Had hoped to have lily pictures to post, but it looks like they are going to wait until we leave. I would have posted a picture of the buds, but I've already packed the camera so I don't forget it.

Hubby says we will need to be on the lookout for snakes while we're there. Governor Jindal says that flooding could be like 1973. I asked hubby about that. He said lots of the farmland around our property had about a foot of standing water. He said our property didn't exactly flood, but we might need 4 wheel drive to get on the property.
I feel for the people in Southern Louisiana. Why do they let people build houses on flood plains?

I got a CPAP machine. So far, I don't like it. But I guess I'll learn to live with it. Rather than haul it with us this time, the people who brought it over said I could wait until I get back to start using it consistently. I tried it last night and took it off after an hour. I felt like I was having to force myself to breathe. Then I felt like I was suffocating, so I just took it off.

Not much more to say, so Happy Friday to you all! Have a great weekend and I'll check in when I can.  :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Got some plants. Two grape plants (white and concord seedless), a blue berry bush and a blackberry bush. No pictures because there's nothing to see yet. ;-)
And I got seeds! Added them to my own little seed vault. :-)

Also went fishing. Forgot the camera, but that's just as well because it mostly rained while we were there.
And my phone is still being too smart for me because it wouldn't take any pictures when I wanted it to.
We saw an Osprey hoping for a fish dinner, and a little while later we saw a heron that had more luck than the Osprey did.

We caught half a dozen nice panfish. Going to grill steak for dinner though. :-)
I started to get a chill so we came home. Was good we did as it really poured just after we got home.
It's almost dry now, but still cloudy. We're probably going to try and finish loading the trailer.
We're leaving Friday after hubby gets off work.

Hope you're all having a Blessed day!

I'll stay fat and happy

'cause I've got friends with tractors. ;-)

Happy Saturday to you all and Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's, Step-Mom's and Mom figures out there!

Going fishing tomorrow. Hope the rain holds off.

God Bless!

Question for those who re-purpose

Most of you know from my posts that we have some pretty dilapidated buildings on the retirement property.
Hubby is pretty well set that the barn, no matter how much character it has, needs to come down.  That will be hard when it happens, but the upside is it will allow for a larger garden near the house, as opposed to putting it out in the pasture where he is thinking he wants to put it.
Here are some pictures of the barn I took on the last trip.

Our back property line ends here. At the back of the barn.

Long story about that, and I don't know all of it for certain, but anyway, hubby wants to tear it down. He is certain there is no part that can be salvaged as a whole, but we do want to reuse the lumber.
So, is there one way that is better than another? When you reuse something, how do you go about it? Does the wood need to be re-planed just to use on another outdoor building? Or is simple sanding (and eventually painting) enough?

Curious minds want to know.

Happy Friday and a blessed weekend to you all!  :-)
