Autumn stroll Photoroll 🤳

As I was off work today I wanted to have a stroll and kick the tyres on this new iPhone 17 Pro Max camera. The weather wasn’t the best today, bit overcast and dull but autumn is slowly creeping inwards now, so I decided to try and capture some chilly autumnal vibes 🤳🍂

Car photo is a ProRaw edited in Photomator the rest are HEICs with Apples Photographic Styles applied (Mostly “Cosy” with tweaks).

I agree with Austin Mann here wholeheartedly about Photographic Styles. They are a powerful yet simple way to apply edits to an image. It absolutely makes me shoot ProRaw less for casual shots and I spend less time editing them to get the vision I want. They’re fantastic. Don’t get me wrong, ProRaw has its place still in my workflow for important shots, and my main workflow is still Photomator, but they work brilliantly well as an intelligent editing tool that respects your image. They’re way more than just filters. If you’ve ignored them, don’t sleep on ‘em. Have a play.

My gym is closed (again! Third time this week with toilet/drainage problems 🤢)

So! I did 20 mins strength and 20 mins yoga on apple fitness instead.

Tracking my VO2 Max, it’s pretty incredible that just in September my stat has gone from a straight-ish slightly wobbly line to a gradual climb up.

It’s like working out is… good for your mind and body  or something!?! 🤪

My internet went offline at home this morning so I’ve Had to come in the office.

In what I’m sure is TOTAL COINCIDENCE as I walked to work I noticed the pole my wires come off which has been covered in vines for years has now suddenly had all the vegetation chopped off and some of the wires now look…. A bit floppy? 🤷🤣

Stuff This Week #63

🏋️ You are looking at a dude that has been to the gym 4 times! Yeh, you heard me. 4. Sure a couple of those times have just been on the workout bike but that’s valid as well?! I am enjoying working out very much. I have some aches and twinges in places I’ve never felt them before but that’s good. It feels great to feel like I’m going out and doing something for myself and will reap the benefit from.

There has to be a story behind this, and I demand to know what it is! 🤣

I find it even stranger that they only have this on one side of the car. Not both 🤔

If I was a builder, I think this would be the name for my business and the quality of my work 🤣

Review : Final Destination Bloodlines

It’s interesting how different people react to different types of horror. I’m fine with that slow creeping dread of films like Nosferatu, The Shining, Longlegs etc. But I’m not great with pure gore. I just Can’t. My wife is my polar opposite. Being a nurse, she finds movie portrayals of gore unmoving. Creepy though? she just can’t do it. Funny how people are different that way. 1

On Sadness

I found myself inspired by Jedda’s recent The Weight Behind My Writing post to write a bit more about my own feelings and emotions on this weird ride through life.

I’ve always had a tendency to lean towards sadness. Not hugely, but I would say I’m absolutely not a positive person in the same way others would be. I’m naturally anxious as well as an over thinker. This is a benefit and a negative depending on what I’m trying to achieve. It can be useful at work. Thanks to my overthinking I calculate risk, document and plan very well. It is less useful in my day to day life as I’m trying to just be happy and well. Sorrow, Anxiety, all get shaken together into the cocktail of my life. The dilution of these ingredients changes constantly, but it’s always there, within the recipe, shaping the overall taste to varying degrees.

Tired: Your kid has a sleepover and they keep you awake ‘till about 2am with their noises. 🥱

Wired: waking at 6am to go to work and making the coffee machine in the kitchen opposite the room they’re sleeping in go BRRRRRRRRR as it grinds some beans 😈

Went to one of our favourite coffee shops/eateries Soulshine in Bridport this morning for brunch. What cute latte art! Amazing Malt Loaf as well. Delicious!

My son has done a much more comprehensive write up and a bunch of photos here.

It’s Pizza O’Clock : Pizza Express Unlimited Pizza Offer

Everyone in the UK loves Pizza Express, don’t they? It toes the line between casual and fancy dining perfectly. You’re as likely to see a first date happening at a Pizza Express as you are a kid’s birthday party or a young family. It’s all things to all people. The pizzas are pretty darn good as well!

As part of their 60-year celebrations, they’re offering an all-you-can-eat pizza deal throughout August between 2pm-5pm. As soon as our family heard about it, it was on. Texts were exchanged, and a date was booked.

So what are the rules?

Review : Mafia : The Old Country

Ah, I love the Mafia games. I have a long history with the mafia franchise and it’s truly one of my favourite things. What a great concept for games!

You don’t actually get that many gritty, historic gangster games vs your typical gruff soldier dudes and fantasy tropes. I think that was a big part of what interested me as a young 20-something when the first Mafia game was released on PC. I loved how grounded it felt.

These games are known for their detailed historical settings. Grand cutscenes and plots, with realistic gunplay and driving elements on top.

Of course, comparisons to the Grand Theft Auto series were bound to happen. But with its focus on realism, and the fact that whilst the games are staged in an explorable city, it wasn’t really an open world in the way GTA is, they’re really very different things. These are focused. Considered experiences.

25 years later, the series continues, having changed both publishers and developers over the years.
