Seatown Sauna // Davey’s De-stress Day
After a busy and stressful work week, I finally arrived at my day off on Friday. I day I’ve been looking forward to all week, because I had booked two very fun things in the funky little hamlet of Seatown for myself and my wife.
Let’s get this fun day on the road!
Fun Thing 1 // Seaside Sauna Haus
It’s been a while since I last had a sauna, and it’s become a popular business idea around here to put little wood fired saunas near some of our lovely Dorset beaches. Two great things becoming greater together!
My wife got me a voucher for my birthday, and after a mistaken booking 1 we had a private session at 11:30am on Friday to look forwards to.
Seatown is a lovely little beach, a real treat that’s slightly off the beaten track and down one of our wonderful country lanes. After paying £8 for parking 2 we had a stroll on the beach whilst we waited for our time to begin.
I’d gotten confused about the time, as though I’d booked 11:30-12:30 on the website, the session was actually 11:45 > 12:45. I guess it’s offset to ensure you get there on time? That was better for us anyway, as we had the pub across the road booked for 1pm, so less hanging around after the sauna sesh. All good!
Staff member Sarah was in charge of the sauna on our visit. She was incredibly kind and welcoming. After our health and safety induction and some sauna tips we were on our way and having our first session.
Our experience of dipping in and out of the heat, splashing with the cold water buckets outside and visiting the ocean was just bliss. After a week of wetness we’d landed really lucky with the weather as well. It was 20c+ and sunny skies all day.
Unfortunately, my wife, who is way braver than me ventured fully into the sea whilst I just dipped my toes in the edge. Unfortunately, she got hit by a freakish wave and scuffed her knee 😢. That wasn’t going to stop her enjoying our day though, she’s made of stern stuff and just kept on keepin’ on. 💪
There was a wide array of sauna accessories. Hats that apparently cool you down (No pictures, but they made me look like Snufkin from the Moomins). We were also given salts to rub on our skin3 and this eucalyptus spray that smelled amazing. We felt thoroughly pampered and relaxed throughout.
We experienced what we decided to call “sauna time compression”, where our hour appeared to go by extremely quickly. Before we knew it our 10 minute warning was delivered along with refreshing orange slices.
Boy do saunas do something crazy to your sense of taste, because these were the most delicious orange slices of my life 🤣
soon our time was at an end, so we cold showered, dried off, got changed and started the long walk to our pub for lunch.
Fun Thing 2 // Lunch At The Anchor Pub
Ok. It wasn’t a long walk. That’s the sauna. That’s the pub in the background 🤣
The Anchor inn is a really nice traditional pub. Small inside but with lots of outdoor seating. We’d reserved a table and I’m glad we did, as it was pretty busy. We couldn’t be seated outside 4
My wife had a veggie ploughman’s lunch 5 and I had crab on a brioche roll. All was delicious. Service was top notch as well. I wanted to leave a tip but they never offered when the card machine came out and I didn’t have any cash to leave on the table. I would absolutely visit the Anchor again. It seems on Friday nights and weekends they have a pizza parlour they run from a barn next door as well. What fun!
We sat and watched the many paragliders that were hovering around the nearby hill as we finished our meal and then strolled back to the car to venture home.
I can honestly say we had a truly wonderful day. Absolutely what the Dr ordered.
I felt relaxed and energised after our Sauna session. It’s absolutely something I’m going to try and fit into some sort of bi-weekly routine. There’s a few more setups across some other local beaches, so I’ve got a feeling I’m going to visit them all! 🤣
We have a bit of an action packed weekend, because next up tomorrow is the Dorset County Show! 🐄🐑🚜
It’s £60 to rent one of these for an hour or £10 for a shared session with strangers. My voucher was for £60 so I presumed my wife wanted me to book us on the private session. She’s actually planned for me to use multiple £10 bookings! Whoops! 😅 Guess I’d just better buy even more time then! 😜 ↵
Yo this made my heart beat faster than the sauna 😳 However! You do get £2 off a pub meal if you use the pub, and we were! Cashback! ↵
This was AMAZING. My skin felt so clean, smooth and refreshed afterwards! ↵
If we were willing to wait and faff about I’m sure we could have sat outside, but it had really heated up by now and we were happy to sit in a cooler spot for a bit. ↵
If you’re not from the UK, I pretty much guarantee you won’t know what this is. ↵
