Let’s go! Very exited to see how this turns out!

Review : Woman Of The Hour
An extrapolation of a true story. Woman Of The Hour shows what women had to put up with in the 70’s in their personal and professional lives. We watch women being objectified, patronised, bullied, ignored, threatened and even attacked.
Sadly something that still hasn’t changed much today.
Stuff This Week #74
Well, a big one this week as my eldest and his girlfriend set off backpacking Asia as part of their gap year for six months. I’ll miss them very much whilst they’re away, but I’m very proud of them and delighted they're off on such an amazing adventure.
Review : Final Destination Bloodlines
It’s interesting how different people react to different types of horror. I’m fine with that slow creeping dread of films like Nosferatu, The Shining, Longlegs etc. But I’m not great with pure gore. I just Can’t. My wife is my polar opposite. Being a nurse, she finds movie portrayals of gore unmoving. Creepy though? she just can’t do it. Funny how people are different that way. 1
Review : 28 Years Later
🚨 Warning: Here be spoilers. I wouldn’t read this until after you’ve seen the film if I was you. But you do you.
I’ve warned you.
🍿 Tickets booked to see 28 Years Later Friday afternoon. Let’s goooooo! 🧟🧟♀️🧟♂️
Review : Nosferatu
My first Eggers film! There was a deal on Apple TV for a 4 film collection of his works 1 so I thought why not. Let’s have a little Eggers season and work through them! A really great tribute to vampiric tales and lore as a background to themes like depression, love, lust, societal expectations and sexism.
Beautifully shot with some great effects it’s a beautifully looking film. The language in the script is great as well. Its choice of language is so rich it adds to the atmosphere brilliantly.
Count Orlock is genuinely terrifying in his portrayal, and Lily-Rose Depp is haunting in her role. Defoe is amazing as usual and Aaron-Taylor Johnston is surprisingly great as well.
It’s a film that begs a second viewing for sure. Maybe after I watch the other 3 films in the collection! Next, the VVitch I think!

VVitch, The Lighthouse, The Northman and Nosferatu
Starship Troopers Remake 👎
"The new movie will go back to the 1959 source material by Robert A. Heinlein and not be based on the 1997 Paul Verhoeven movie."
🔗 Deadline
Ugh.
Verhoeven took the source material and made a brilliant (bizarrely misunderstood at the time of release by many) parody of fascism and a class of youths being indoctrinated into it.
I guess bringing it back as a totally serious jingoistic take is pretty fucking on point for the state of the world right now. 🙄
Very much a streaming movie. Talented leads and great to see Sope Dirisu in the start of the movie, but that’s about all it has going for it.
The first half is the best half as the pair get to know each other. Then it sort of unravels.
Sigourney Weaver is wasted.
Action is ok. SFX are mid.
The score is dire. Just terrible.
Stuff This Week #38
Welcome one and all! It’s been a week of progress with house repairs being done, new blogs being worked on, posts being posted and just generally gettin’ it done darn it 💪
🍔 Someone at work informed me that Golden Arches Unlimited the official McDonalds merch store is open now in the UK. You’re talking to the man who made a friend through the desire to acquire a US only McDonalds sesame seed bun hoodie. What can I say? Sometimes the internet is Awesome.
It reminded me of another story of the internet and trust back when the very first iPhone released in the states and the UK launch was months away, I paid an unknown acquaintance on a video game forum 1 the cost of the phone in USD and shipping charges hoping his offer was legit. The phone turned up a few days later and was perfect, which then resulted in me being a middle man for several other friends in the UK that just had to have the iPhone.
🍿 Carry-On (2024) - ★★★☆☆
Sure! 🤷♂️ perfectly watchable with a likable cast. A modern mix of phone booth and Die Hard 2.
Stuff This Week #26
Took Friday off this week to try and recover some work/life balance which worked out reasonably successfully, letting me shoot out some ideas into the world I’d thought of but has left be a bit last minute for writing this here post! 😅
Stuff This Week #25
Another week where work and the day to day has got ahead of anything too exciting I’m afraid. Gas leaks are thankfully over, as well as some weekend work I was stressed about. So here’s to a new week!

📱 iPhone Stuff
Not had time to properly check out the new camera yet. I’m going to walk this afternoon and see what I can capture. No doubt with some Process Zero shots in the mix (Still really liking the results it gives).
I haven’t installed Instagram or Threads on my new phone yet. I….think I might just….not? 🤷♂️🤣
This electric adhesive on the iPhone 16’s is very snazzy. Metal covered battery for safety as well. Sadly not made it to the Pro models this time around but I’m sure it’ll be in the 17’s.
📑 Nearly finished migrating from Obsidian to Apple Notes and the more I use it the more I love it. Folders and tags have been added and I’ve started to consolidate or purge old notes. As I’ve previously alluded to I have thoughts about me, tools and note taking and I should write about them at some point.

🔈 Two podcasts I’m really enjoying at the moment

I bought a dbrand skin for my iPad Magic Keyboard case as I hate the slightly sticky rubber texture on these things and how easily they pick up marks that just never go away. I slightly cocked up the application of one of the back pieces. My wife smartly reminded me that perfect is the enemy of good by telling me it looked fine and still does the job. It feels so much better to hold and carry now. Wish I’d maybe gone for a different skin. Maybe next time. Some photos here if you’d like to see the results.
🇯🇵 I made the landing page for my Japan Diaries so that bit of amateur photo journaling is 100% done. A small thing all in all but I’m really proud of the effort I put into the writing and the photo editing. I made that exist through my meagre talents and I’m glad I did.
Game Stuff
I’ve pre-ordered a PS5 Pro. Not the fancy 30th anniversary one that is now apparently going via scalpers for $10,000 😳. Time to box up and trade in the PS5 soon. I don’t want to build a gaming PC. I have enough faff in my life. I’m playing my PlayStation more than my Xbox at the moment and I loath that MS put up the price of GamePass.
Zelda : Echos of Wisdom is out! My afternoon today is going to be spent playing this.
Finished Space Marine 2. I thought it was extremely mid by the end.
1 more world left on Astro Bot. I’m loving their equivalent of the “Challenge Levels” in Mario games. They’re not quite as psychotically difficult as some Mario challenges can be, and not so long they outstay their welcome. This one took me literally like 100 tries and over about 40 minutes before I got a successful run.
🃏 Balatro on iPhone. O.M.G. 😅
🍿 TV/Movie Stuff
Finished Land Of Women on Apple TV. Loved all of it apart from the ending. It leaves waaaaaay too much open for a Season 2. I hope it gets one. It’s going to be so frustrating if it gets cancelled.
More Apple TV, we’re watching Wolfs tonight. It’s apparently just “OK”, but I’m sure Clooney and Pitt will be watchable enough. Also Amy Ryan is showing up in everything! at the moment. Great actor and always compelling to watch.
🏙️ have to watch Megalopolis in a cinema. What a weird film. I need to put myself through it. I have zero chance of convincing anyone else to go 🤣
🔋 I also need to watch The Substance. I heard it described as Posessor1 mixed with The Fly. Sold!
Also on a horror push, Uzumaki looks terrifying but has captured the art style of Junji Ito perfectly. It’s beautiful and unnerving at the same time.
One of my favourite films of all time. ↩
🍿 The Fall Guy ★★★★☆
A really enjoyable “one of those” with some geniunely hilarous scenes and an incredibly likable cast. Well worth a watch.
🍿 Deadpool & Wolverine ★★★☆☆
Funny enough and I enjoyed the cameos, but I didn’t love it. If you’re a dyed in the wool marvel fan you’ll probably get more out of it than I did.
Stuff This Week #17
Photo this week is of local celebrity cat Susie
Nothing too exciting this week, but a few things I’ve watched, some things I feel… Some plans for more blog content.
🍿LONGLEGS ★★★★☆
This film is going to be marmite. utterly love or hate. 2 people walked out whilst I was watching it.
It’s not the scariest film ever made like the hype would have you believe, but it’s got a ratcheting dread throughout and certainly goes places by the end.
Great cinematography.
Stuff This Week #16
A week where my work life balance has been slightly heavier on the work as it seems I’ve been firefighting all week! I hope to do a bit better next week.
I don’t have a good photo for this week but a Trio picture is always a good picture 🐱❤️
🍿 Hit Man ★★★★☆
A charming , philosophical, romantic, dark (but not too dark) comedy that keeps you guessing until the end with two amazing leads knocking it outta the park. Really enjoyable movie.
🍿 Spaceman
TW - Arachnophobia
This looks like it’s going to be another fantastic Serious Sandler role. The book it’s based off is described as “Solaris with laughs”. Sign me up 👍
