Peter Kay To Star In Irish Comedy 'National Task Force'

Peter Kay is set to star alongside Colm Meaney and Keith Duffy in Irish comedy ‘National Task Force’, a new feature film to be directed by and starring Brendan O’Carroll which is written by Anthony Whelan (Mind Games) and Derek Furlong (After Dark: Black Hollow)

“The story is based around Detective Charles Malloy (a high ranking officer of the GNDU), whose partner was recently murdered whilst uncovering a drugs operation in the republic, run by suspected drug lord Craig Cain. Malloy while successful in his duties as a Garda detective, becomes incensed when he hears that the department has dropped the investigation into the murder of his ex-partner."

“Superintendent Taylor (O’Carroll), is the head of the GNDU and is ordered by senior management, to team Detective Malloy up with a new face, Detective James O’Connor (a young detective hoping to make a name for himself) in a hope that it will help him move on, calm him down and settle him back into normality. Malloy however has different plans. His no-nonsense approach to his job and his forceful arguments with his boss Superintendent Taylor, continues to disobey orders and proceeds to drag his new partner all over the city in an effort to find the connections that will lead him to Craig Cain.”

Neil Jordan Discusses 'Ondine'

Neil Jordan's 'Ondine' Preview Images & Synopsis

Paramount Ireland have provided us with the first preview images of Neil Jordan's 'Ondine', which stars Colin Farrell, Alicja Bachleda and Stephen Rea. The movie which is set in Ireland was filmed in Co. Cork.

Paramount also forwarded us the films synopsis and Neil Jordan's story of how the films production came about, which you can read below.

Official Synopsis:
Ondine is a lyrical modern fairy tale that tells the story of Syracuse (Colin Farrell), an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a beautiful and mysterious woman (Alicja Bachleda) in his nets. His daughter Annie (Alison Barry) comes to believe that the woman is a magical creature, while Syracuse falls helplessly in love.

However, like all fairy tales, enchantment and darkness go hand in hand. Written and directed by Neil Jordan - and shot against the Irish coast’s magical backdrop by cinematographer Christopher Doyle - ONDINE is a story of love, hope and the unwavering belief in the impossible.

THE PRODUCTION STORY:

During the Writer's Strike a Hollywood project fell through - Heart Shaped Box. I went back to Ireland where I have a house in West Cork and wrote this fairy tale, which could shoot entirely within a radius of five miles from where I live. About a fisherman, who pulled up a living girl in his net. His disabled daughter, who invented stories about her. These stories feed on local legends - sea creatures, seal creatures, selkies. How they only have a certain time on land. How they fall in love with their rescuer. How they can make a wish come true. How the sea always calls them back.

Much of what the girl invents turns out to be true, but never in ways she expected. The whole thing develops into an impossibly romantic love story, in which real human beings insist on turning their lives into a fairy tale. Because reality is too hard, maybe. Because that is what we love to do, have to do, maybe…

Terry Gilliam: Rescuing Dr. Parnassus Was "Madness"

Terry Gilliam has spoken about the difficulty of finishing The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus without Heath Ledger.
"It was madness, frankly, trying to rescue a film with Heath dying in the middle of it. But I think the sheer pressure of having to do something made us just go for it. You couldn't double-think anything, you just make some decisions, jump in and hope it worked.

"But shooting it after that point, I was never sure whether it would or wouldn't work. But I can actually say it works and it works brilliantly."
The movie, which stars Ledger, Christopher Plummer and Tom Waits, is about the leader of a travelling theatre troupe which takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.

Production was suspended following Ledger's death, while Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped in to portray his character Tony in dream sequences.
