My Adventures With Goku

This Ricardo Lopez Ortiz cover for My Adventures with Superman is a great tribute to Akira Toriyama’s classic Dragon Ball art. Considering Superman was an inspection for Goku it’s cool to see things come full circle.

A Real Wholesome Team-Up

This piece by comic book artist Dan Mora is fantastic. It combines two of my favorite paragons.

Music Monday - Gunning For Me

This My Hero Academia inspired track is great.

The final season starts October 10th. This won’t be the last bit of animated MHA we get though since the spin-off, Vigilantes, has a new season in the works.

Music Monday - Kekka Orai

As I’ve mentioned previously I love My Hero Academia: VigilantesIt was a great manga and season 1 has been fantastic. I’ve had the opening theme “Kekka Orai” on repeat for a few months now. The song’s name literally translates to “It all turned out alright in the end.”

If you haven’t seen it here’s the opening.

Here's a video of the artists performing the full song:

And finally here's an English cover of the song by Silver Storm:

If you want some gaming content here are Kuckleduster stats for DCC and Koichi stats for 5e.

Freaky Fist Grandpa

While I’ll post part 2 of my Evolved deep dive later, I wanted to share this now.

I've watched the first six episodes of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes and I love it! I read the manga  earlier this year and the series has been a faithful adaptation. Its a prequel to the main series and sets some major events in motion. It also gives us a glimpse of existing heroes and villains in their early days. It also introduces some great new characters.

While Koichi is definitely the main character of the series, Pop Step and Knuckleduster are important secondary protagonists. If All-Might is Superman in the MHA world, then Knuckleduster is Batman. He's a hard hitting mentor character that can go toe-to-toe with quirk users. Since I've been in a DCC supers mood, I thought I'd use True Vigilante to stat him out. Looking at the classes I felt that True Vigilante might be the best. He could likely be a Dark Avenger too.

Knuckleduster (10th level True Vigilante): Init +3; Atk +11 (brass knuckles, 1d6+1); Crit III/2d16; AC 15 (leather coat + dex); HD 10d8+30; HP 88; Mov. 30'; Act 2d20; SP improvised weapons, extreme violence, demolitions; SV Ref +9; Fort +7; Will +6; AL L

Music Monday - Peace Sign

Of all the My Hero Academia intro themes is Kenshi Yonezu's Peace Sign is my favorite. It's a really fun track and a good example of the show's vibe, and let's be honest that's what an opening theme should do. This extended video also shows some great scenes from the early seasons of the show.

Music Monday - Abyss

Kaiju No. Eight is a fantastic kaiju series. The protagonist, Kafka Hibino, is an old-timer (he's only 32, but considered ancient by the other heroes in the setting) that gets one last chance to join the Defense Force and join his childhood friend in defending Japan from kaiju. He's able to do this when he gains the ability to assume a kaiju form.

The opening credits theme by English singer-songwriter, YUNGBLUD, is phenomenal.

Music Monday - Homunculus

Homunculus is the theme for the last My Hero Academia movie, You're Next. The film takes place after the U.A. Traitor Arc, but before the Final War Arc. It’s US home release will be April 1st. Check out the movie's opening song.

Marvel - My Hero Academia Style

Back in 2022, I shared a few pieces of My Hero Academia art done by Marvel artist Ryan Stegman. You can see that art here.

This post is the flipside of that. The piece below was illustrated by MHA creator Kōhei Horikoshi. The thing that really sticks out to me here is that Captain Marvel (who's wearing her Ms. Marvel gear) looks a lot like Mount Lady.

Music Monday - Hero Too

Hero Too is a song written and performed by Class 1-A for the U.A. School Festival Arc. It's really cute and the track makes me happy. Like the Marvel Rivals theme, the vocals for this one were done by Chrissy Costanza of Against the Current.

Nothing Like Doing Good To Make You Feel Good!!

The My Hero Academia spinoff, Vigilantes, debuts in April. Set five years before the original, the story focuses on Koichi, a college freshman who wants to use his quick to help people, despite not being a licensed hero. He soon finds himself teaming up with the grizzled Knuckleduster and the street idol, Pop☆Step and acting as a vigilante in the Naruhata ward of Tokyo. The ragtag trio must deal rampant use of Trigger.

The trailer dropped a few days ago and I think it looks fantastic. I'm currently reading the manga and it's a been a fun story. I'm definitely excited to see it animated.

I wanted to do some game stats too, so here is Koichi at at the beginning of his vigilante journey. His quirk, Slide and Glide, allow him to slide over surfaces all long as he has three points of contact. He can slide up vertical surfaces and move quickly. However, if he goes faster than a bike he risks injuring himself or those around him due to lack of training. His hero costume consists of one of his many collectable All-Might hoodies and a medical mask. He is initially known as Mr. Nice Guy by the locals, though he decides to start calling himself The Crawler soon after becoming a student of Knuckleduster.

He can move backwards and up vertical surfaces while using slide and glide. However, if he doesn't have three limbs in contact while moving up a vertical surface he falls prone.

Music Monday - Curtain Call

Curtain Call is the opening theme to My Hero Academia's most recent season. It's the 13th opening theme. The theme is catchy and the video does a great job of contrasting the heroes and villains of the series.

Music Monday - Down&Under

It's been a while since I've posted one of Divide Music's original My Hero Academia music videos. Honestly this might be one of my favorite MHA tracks he's written. The conflict between Deku and Tomura Shigaraki is a compelling one.
