Is there any way to get the actual srandom/random functions from stdlib.h over to the mingw32 environment? .. using rand/srand did not work as I had hoped, it let me compile, but it's acting very strangely .. it compiles fine under cygnus, but I don't want to have to use the cygnus1.dll .. if I use the compiler switch -mno-cygnus, I get the undefined reference errors again .. Any ideas? |

Then "cl /?" will tell you what the compiler switches mean. Neil |

Hello Everyone,
I downloaded the file `dsp2mak.awk' a while back and am now trying to use
it to convert a MSVStudio Project file to a gcc-compatible makefile. Thus,
this IS an on-topic query ;-). I am trying to build a C++ dll written for
MSVC under minGW.
I am stumped because it appears that there is a type of switch the awk
script didn't parse. It is where the Project file uses contructs like this:
/Y[uc]someheader.h
(that is, a slash followed by `Y' followed by either `u' or `c' followed by a
<filename>.h).
The output from the awk script simply left these intact.
Can anybody with some knowledge of the arcane workings of MSC tell me
(us) what this switch is supposed to do, so that I can add it to the awk script
(or recommend to the author that he do so)?
BTW, if the documentation that would help me with this is part of the MS
PDK package, please don't just refer me to that as if I am a lazy cretin. I
have tried unsuccessfully 3 times to finish a download / install of the PDK
but it stalls (it IS MS software engineering, after all!) each time. (So please,
give me your copy of the PDK or give me specific help on these compiler
switch issues, just don't be a scolding tight-ass but give nothing. Thanks.)
The DLL I am trying to compile adds a shell extension to Windows Explorer
that allows quick copying of the Path Specification for any file to the
Windows Clipboard -- in POSIX format if you want. Sound handy to anyone
here? I would think so! The package is called "CopyPathExt".
Thanks, Happy New Year to all.

Any ideas on this error message, I am compiling a program that uses the
splotch AI engine, and I get the following output..
splotch.o(.text+0x137):splotch.c: undefined reference to `random'
splotch.o(.text+0x191):splotch.c: undefined reference to `random'
splotch.o(.text+0x36c):splotch.c: undefined reference to `srandom'
splotch.o(.text+0x672):splotch.c: undefined reference to `random'
splotch.o(.text+0x1295):splotch.c: undefined reference to `random'
This program compiles fine under linux and cygwin, but I am trying to
compile under mingw .. any clues? here is a section of code that uses the
"random" function out of splotch.c
else {
if ((random() % 100)+1)
usetempl(maxtempl);
else {
i = (random() % SP_HIST);
i = oldkeywd[i];
if (DEBUG)
fprintf(stderr, "<<SP_HIST used, i=%i>>\n",i);
if (i < 0)

else usetempl(i);

I don't know why you get that error with dev-c++ ide. Maybe you should ask that list. I've been using WSAStartup with mingw (linking against libws2_32.a) with no problem. If you are a newbie, why do you want to compile them yourself? Why not just get the precompiled DLLs, import libraries and headers from www.gimp.org/win32/downloads.html? Get the glib-dev and gtk+-dev zip archives. > In README.win32 of the glib I can't find the answer and the same > thing happen with the archives of the mailing lists What version of GLib are you looking at? For Win32, you really should (at least at this point) be using the latest "unstable" developer version, it should be better than the so-called "stable" ones. The one downloadable from the link above corresponds to the CVS HEAD version on the date indicated. GTK+ is a bit different, there the CVS HEAD version is so much in flux that the Win32 port hasn't been able to keep up. The GTK+ version downloadable from the link above corresponds to GTK+ 1.3.0 from March-April, with some bugfixes. The publicly available GTK+ 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 (developer versions) definitely do not work on Win32, and might not even compile. --tml |

Yes, I've used it during testing of various Cygwin ports. As I recall, that particular combination didn't work...in fact there was some assumption...ah yes, no -mwindows, ie. the compiler assumed console operation as opposed to win32 operation. After specifically adding the -mwindows switch, it seemed to work. This, in turn, lead me to believe that due to the basis of the -mno-cygwin switch (linking crtdll.dll version of Mingw), -mthreads wasn't able to work too well. Apparently, -mthreads doesn't like to function without -mwindows being set...so since there have been no complaints or reports re: the above combination I figured it was because it wasn't used by more than a few people. I've been doing some COM stuff involving threads and it appears that the Global Interface Table functionality is missing from Mingw. A grep of the headers doesn't show GlobalInterFaceTable anywhere. Can anyone tell me if a) the functionality exists b) if it doesn't exist, is it being worked on c) if it doesn't exist and isn't being worked on, how do I work on it so it will exist? I'm not a C++ or COM guru, so I would need some sort of primer on how to create the required header files etc. The prime culprit that is missing is the uuid.h file. Jim S. |

Hello... A Newbie question (well, everybody has to be one someday...) : Trying to compile a Win32 project started with VC++ 6.0, I finally made my way through windres, make, gcc and ld, my .exe builds ok, but with that strange phenomenon : when I run the exe, I first have a "dos" window, then the exe window. That dos window stays behind the exe window, and I can't kill it without killing the exe. Does someone has a clue about this ? Or if I'm not in the right place for that kind of question, where can I ask ? Thanks Bruno Desthuilliers bd...@wo... |

Hi Herve, On 24 Dec 2000, at 9:41, the Illustrious Herv=E9 PARISSI wrote: > For instance : > the latest libbfd has gcc-f77 instead, so you can't use the > latest ld (which seems not to work with the previous libbfd), > binutils 2.10.91.20001212 haven't been uploaded... Maybe more likely a de-centralization that is causing this...ie. distribution mixing... So, even though libbfd has gcc-f77, it may not work at all with gcc-Mingw. I am inclined to attribute this (possibility) to the fact that there is no specific distribution primarily oriented around f77 compilations using Mingw version of gcc-f77. I do know that the compiler (fortran) has entirely different requirements than does the mingw compiler (gcc/g++). Chances are good that the libbfd distribution works just fine with Mingw, but is incompatible with F77 compile/linking. Again, this is largely deduction and speculation. However, indicators do point to this sort of situation as the root cause of the problem with libbfd _not_ working with fortran compiles. Checking Cygwin yields > same error. What are you attempting to do? Yes, it is. It's in the latest 2.97 work. They probably read something about it and tried to use it in 2.95 where it doesn't exist. A little hubris, eh? |
