This Week in Prophecy: Yom Kippur 5786/5950/2025; Linen Garments; Brit Digital ID; Nigeria Persecution

Leviticus 16:4 He shall put on the holy linen coat and shall have the linen undergarment on his body, and he shall tie the linen sash around his waist, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water and then put them on.

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is the busiest day of the year for the high priest.

These are the instructions for the high priest before enters the Holy Place in the Temple.

Exodus 28 gives instructions for the priestly garments. The clothing for the priest is to be made of linen. 

Exodus 28:5 They shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet material and the fine linen. 

The concept is stated seven more times in Exodus 28. Priestly garments are of linen (Exodus 28:6, 8, 15, 39, 39, 42).

Currently, there is a high priest in the Heavenly Tabernacle. He is of the order of Melchizedek. 

Hebrews 6:20 …where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Before going to Heaven to be at the right hand of the Father, Christ the high priest was buried in linen. 

Matthew 27:59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth… (see also Mark 15:46, Luke 23:53).

The body referenced is Jesus after His death.

John 20:17 Jesus says to her, “Do not touch Me, for not yet have I ascended to the Father. Now go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”

After His death but before His ascension, Christ was clean and free of sin. He had become a sin offering at the cross. Jesus had overcome death or sin with His resurrection.

Christ is talking to Mary Magdalene. Because of her history, we know she was a sinful woman. Not to pick on Mary, as humans, we are all sinful. Jesus would have said the same thing to any of us if we were in Mary’s place.

Jesus’ resurrected body could not come in contact with sin before going to the Heavenly Tabernacle. Jesus entered Heaven free of sin in His glorified body. Christ presented Himself clean and pure before God the Father in the Heavenly Holy Place.

Revelation 13:16-17 And the second beast required all people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark—the name of the beast or the number of its name.

God’s Fall Appointments, 5786/5950/2025

God’s Fall Appointments are the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles. It’s that time of the year and the Feasts are approaching.

Numbers 29:1 ‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.

The beginning of the Jewish civil new year is upon us within the next week. This is the Hebrew month of Tishri. It will be the Hebrew year 5786 on a traditional and secular calendar. The date for Yom Teruah is calculated to be near sunset Monday, September 22nd. Some will confirm the new year with the sighting of the new moon. The new year begins when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses. The traditional Hebrew calendar is a lunar calendar.

As the Essenes mark time, the month of Tishri begins on Wednesday, September 17. The Essenes celebrate their New Year in the spring with the beginning of Nisan or Abib per Exodus 12:2. This calendar is a solar calendar.

The first fall holiday has many names. It is called the Feast of Trumpets by Christians. It is recognized as the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Some refer to it as the “Hidden Day” or the “Wedding of the Messiah”. In Judaism, it is called Yom Teruah which means the “Day of Blowing”.

It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah or repent in the Hebrew. This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest with multiple animal sacrifices.

The beginning for the Day of Atonement in 2024 is calculated at sundown Wednesday, October 1st and ends the next day, Thursday evening, October 2nd. This date could be determined by the confirmation of the new moon 10 days earlier. The Essenes mark the date as Friday, September 26th through the next day.

Leviticus 23:33-36 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD. On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.’”

The third and last fall holiday on God’s calendar is Tabernacles. It is also called Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it was after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it was also called “the Feast” or “the Festival”. This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21 on a Hebrew calendar.

On our western Gregorian calendar, in 2025, the Feast of Tabernacles will be observed from about Monday, October 6th to Monday, October 13th. Or, pending the new moon confirmed at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tishri.

This year, the Essenes mark the beginning of Tabernacles on Wednesday, October 1st (which happens to be the day the secular calendar calculates the onset of Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement) and runs through Tuesday, October 7th. The last and Great Day occurs on Wednesday, October 8th.

There are seven God appointed holidays communicated through the Mosaic Law. The first four in the Spring were fulfilled to the day by Jesus Himself with His death, burial, resurrection, and the giving of the Holy Spirit. If the first four Spring holidays were fulfilled by Jesus on the God appointed holidays, why would the Fall holidays be any different?

Mark 13:32-33 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come…”

It is easy to see why the verse above is true with all the calendar confusion. The post has covered 4 different time keeping systems for marking God’s Appointments. Ultimately, the question is how does God mark time?

The fundamental difference in determining the new moon is simple. 21st century, modern day man calculates the new moon. The new moon is determined when there is actually no moon at all to be observed in the sky. The moon is occluded by the earth and the sun is unable to shed its light on the heavenly object.

In ancient Biblical days, the new moon was determined when the crescent sliver of the new moon was observed. The crescent moon was seen in the sky.

Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement: 5783/2022

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah. The holiday will be 10 days after Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets is declared at the sighting of the new moon.

The New Moon was sighted in Israel on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022. Therefore, Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement/10th Day of the 7th Month, Tishri, starts at sunset on Thursday, October 6th, and ends on Friday, October 7th, 2022 on our western Gregorian calendar.

As calculated in the secular world, Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement/10th day of the 7th month, Tishri, begins at sunset on Tuesday, October 4th and ends at sunset on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022.

This holiday is viewed as the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only feast day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. On the Day of Atonement, the high priest was kept awake during the dark of the night. The high priest was dressed in a white robe. Sacrifices of a bull, ram, and a goat occur. The priest makes a sacrifice for himself and for the nation of Israel. Yom Kippur is the day the high priest came into the inner sanctuary of the temple to make sacrifices on behalf of the nation of Israel. He is the only person allowed into the inner sanctuary. This day is the only day the high priest is allowed in the inner sanctuary. He entered the highest holy place with incense and coals. The incense was burned. Next, the recovered blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat, the top of the Ark of the Covenant. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest.

In the 21st century, we have a high priest.

Today, animal sacrifices are no longer necessary, even when the Jewish Temple is rebuilt. 

Hebrews 9:11-14 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 13:11-12 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

Some believe this is the day at the end of the 7 year tribulation that Christ will physically return to Earth and establish His millennial kingdom.

Hebrews 9:28 …so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

The first fall holiday has many names. It is called the Feast of Trumpets by Christians. It is recognized as the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Some refer to it as the “Hidden Day” or the “Wedding of the Messiah”. In Judaism, it is called Yom Teruah which means the “Day of Blowing”.

This is the beginning of the civil new year. This is the Hebrew month of Tishri. It is the Hebrew year 5782.

The date for Yom Teruah is sunset near Monday, September 6 or Tuesday, September 7, 2021 (traditional Gregorian calendar). This date is confirmed pending the sighting of the new moon. The new year begins when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses. Yom Teruah ends two days later. The confirmation of the new moon will ultimately determine the dates of the subsequent fall appointments.

The second fall holiday is the Day of Atonement. See Leviticus 16. Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah or repent in the Hebrew. This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest with multiple animal sacrifices. The beginning for the Day of Atonement in 2021 is Wednesday, September 15 or Thursday, September 16 at sun down. This date is ultimately determined by the confirmation of the new moon 10 days earlier.

Leviticus 23:33-36 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD. On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.’”

The third and last fall holiday on God’s calendar is Tabernacles. It is also called Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it was after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it was also called “the feast” or “the festival”. This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21 on a Hebrew calendar. On our western Gregorian calendar, in 2021, the Feast of Tabernacles will be observed from Monday, September 20 or Tuesday, September 21, again pending the new moon confirmed at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tishri. The joyous “festival” ends seven days later.

There are seven God appointed holidays communicated through the Mosaic Law. The first four were fulfilled to the day by Jesus Himself with His death, burial, resurrection, and the giving of the Holy Spirit. If the first four spring holidays were fulfilled on the God appointed holiday, why would the fall holidays be any different?

There Shall Be Seven Weeks: Feasts (Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement)

Daniel 9:25b …there shall be seven weeks…

The context of this series of posts is the course of the Jewish people for the initial 49 years of the 483 year period communicated from the angel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. The city of Jerusalem has been rebuilt post exile. These events are covered in Nehemiah 8-13. Israel is returning to God’s Law. The focus is on God’s appointed holidays. This week, the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur is the topic.

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah.

This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. On the Day of Atonement, the high priest was kept awake during the dark of the night. The high priest was dressed in a white robe. Sacrifices of a bull, ram, and a goat occur. The priest makes a sacrifice for himself and for the nation of Israel. Yom Kippur is the day the high priest came into the inner sanctuary of the temple to make sacrifices on behalf of the nation of Israel. He is the only person allowed into the inner sanctuary. This day is the only day the high priest is allowed in the inner sanctuary. He entered the highest holy place with incense and coals. The incense was burned. Next, the recovered blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat, the top of the Ark of the Covenant. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest.

In the 21st century, we have a high priest. 

Hebrews 6:20 …where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Today, animal sacrifices are no longer necessary, even when the Jewish Temple is rebuilt. 

Hebrews 9:11-14 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 13:11-12 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

Some believe this is the day at the end of the 7 year tribulation that Christ will physically return to Earth and establish His millennial kingdom.

Hebrews 9:28 …so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
