Nahum 1:1 The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Context, Nahum was writing about the future judgment of Nineveh or modern day Mosul, Iraq. This is the same place Jonah preached repentance to the Assyrian Empire capital and they had a change of heart. Jonah was buried in ancient Nineveh, modern day Mosul.
Today in the 21st century, this region is a Kurdish area in northern Iraq, inhabited by Christians.
There is some debate as to the location of “Elkosh”. There are three options.
Judean Proposal: Early Christian commentators (Jerome, Eusebius) placed Elkosh in southern Judah near present-day Beit Guvrin, citing a local synagogue that claimed Nahum’s tomb.
Galilean Proposal: The name “Capernaum” (“village of Nahum”) in Galilee suggests a northern site; if correct, Jesus ministered in the region that once sent a prophet to denounce Nineveh (Matthew 4:13).
Assyrian Proposal: Modern Alqosh in northern Iraq lies about thirty miles north of ancient Nineveh and preserves the name. This view would situate Nahum among exiles or merchants living on Assyrian soil, heightening the boldness of his message.

Turkey and Iran have discovered something they both have in common. They both have declared war on “terrorists” as they see it, the Kurds.

December 12, 2018: Turkey’s President Recep Erdogan announced he is looking to advance military troops into Syria. His stated goal is to remove a terrorist threat. The threat is land possessed by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units or also known as the YPG.
The YPG has been working with the United States as well as the Syrian Democratic Forces or the SDF. These three groups have been focused on ISIS.
“We will start an operation to free the east of the Euphrates from the separatist terrorist organisation in the next few days,” stated Erdogan.

The United States and YPG are located east and west of the Euphrates River. US military forces are located in the city of Manbij, Syria.
Erdogan appears to mean business. Sources indicate Turkey is moving equipment on the Syrian border town of Akcakale. Border walls on the Turkey/Syrian border town of Ras al-Ayn are being taken down by the Turks.
The United States is reported to have forces near Ras al-Ayn and Manbij in Syria.

February 2018: President Recep Erdogan of Turkey has launched Operation Olive Branch. Turkey is looking to rid the region of terrorism. Turkey has crossed into northern Syria to do their bidding. The object of the operation is the Kurdish population. Turkey has indicated they prefer the Kurds east of the Euphrates River.
“One of our helicopters was downed just recently. These things will happen, we are in a war. (We) might lose a helicopter. (They) pay a heavy price.”
Erdogan is looking to expand further to the south in Syria. He is not finished in Afrin.
“We want our Syrian brothers and sisters to return to their land, and now we want to do the same in Idlib what we have done in Afrin.”
October 28, 2017: Fighting between the Kurds and Iraq is approaching the village of Al Qosh north of Mosul or ancient Nineveh. Al Qosh is home to the prophet Nahum. This is the burial place of Nahum. The prophet was buried roughly 2,700 years ago. Al Qosh is a Christian community.
Nahum 1:1 An oracle concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum of Elkosh.
Nahum writes about the future destruction and judgment of Nineveh. His name means comfort or consolation. Elkosh is believed to Jerusalem and Gaza per Nelson’s Complete Book of Bible Maps & Charts.
Locals are nervous as the conflict draws closer. The following is a quote from Ksenia Svetlova of Zionist Union MK. She leads a group in the Israeli Knesset. Svetlova believes in the protection of Jewish culture and heritage in Arab and Muslim countries.

Roughly 2,600 years ago the prophet Jeremiah wrote about the eventual destruction of Damascus in Jeremiah 49. See also Isaiah 17. In the northern part of Syria is Aleppo. Ancient Arpad is located approximately 10 miles north of modern day Aleppo. Moving south in Syria, the next location is ancient Hamath or modern day Hama. Hamath was the capital of the northern kingdom of ancient Syria.
September 26, 2017: Russia is pounding the area to the west of the two ancient cities in the Idlib province. The Idlib province is home to Sunni rebel forces of Al Nusra or Al Qaeda of Syria. Russia continues its support of the Assad’s Shia government in Syria. Russia is bombing throughout the province continually.
Russia has introduced its most advanced fighter jet (the MiG 29SMT) into the conflict. The MiG 29SMT is stationed near Latakia, Syria. For detail and specifics of the jet’s capabilities, see the link below.
The Assad Syrian government claims Russia has constructed pontoon bridges across the Euphrates River. This is allowing for the transport of heavy equipment east of the Euphrates. Local reports indicate two bridges have been built. Russian backed Syrian forces have pushed east to the point of United States backed Kurdish (Syrian Democratic Forces or SDF). This is occurring about 3-5 miles east of the Euphrates River.
Otherwise, the Euphrates River is operating as a point of division between the Shia forces of the Syrian government and the predominantly Sunni forces of the Kurds.
The battle for Raqqa continues. Devastation in the city is profound. Sources on the ground indicate the United States backed Kurds (SDF) now control 80-90% of the area. Roughly 700-1,000 ISIS fighters remain in the city. Military commanders estimate the liberation of Raqqa should take place within the next month. Kurds now control the grain silos for the city. Medicine, food, and water remain in short supply.
And this is a developing story. Kurds are voting for their independence. Early polling numbers show the Kurds are overwhelmingly in favor of their own country. Preliminary results indicate 93% in favor of the nation Kurdistan.
Neighbors around the Middle East are less then enthused. President Recep Erdogan of Turkey is threatening military action and to cut off food supplies to the future country. Erdogan has indicated he will cut oil and gas lines coming from the region. Turkey also looks to control the water of the Tigris River with the construction of the Ilisu Dam. And for good measure, military hardware and troops are headed to the Turkey/Iraqi border.
Iraq and Iran are not supportive of a national Kurdistan. The following is from Radio Free Europe.

The Euphrates River is the future eastern border of Israel. This formation of Israel has not been fulfilled.
In June 2017, Russia issued a red line to the United States and supported Kurdistan forces. Do not go west of the Euphrates River. Russia effectively declared a no fly zone from the Euphrates River west to the Mediterranean Sea.
The United States has demonstrated clear air superiority since the early 1990’s. The US reminded Russia and friends by shooting down a Syrian SU 22 fighter jet.
There appeared to be a gentlemen’s agreement between the United States and Russia. The Euphrates River will be the divider. Russia and its surrogates will stay west of the Euphrates. The United States and its allies will be positioned to the east of the river.
September 13, 2017: Action is heating up on the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor, Syria. Countries are scrambling for possession of oil fields. ISIS currently occupies the city at least for now. ISIS is getting it from all angles. The Syrian army with the support of the Russians is attacking ISIS from the west. Kurdish forces (Syrian Democratic Forces/SDF) are approaching from the north of the city with the support of the United States.
Russia is reported to have crossed their own red line, the Euphrates River. There are conflicting reports rather or not Russia and the Syrian army has crossed the Euphrates. Russia is reported to have water bridges and boats on site.
The Kurds and Russian supported troops have promised not to fight each other.
“We have clear instructions that after Daesh (ISIS) is eliminated, we should not act against the forces of the (Bashar Assad) regime or against the Russian, Iranian forces or the Hezbollah movement, which are allied with it,” SDF spokesman Talal Silo told Sputnik Monday.
“It’s going to be a race. It is going to be a race because you’ve got the Syrian army with Russian assistance coming in from the West and you have the United States coming in from the north and the East,” former Pentagon official Michael Maloof told RT.

…had been slain…This is an example where our translators have provided a sanitized translation. The original Greek is blunt and graphic. The word is σπηαζο/sphazo. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: to slay, slaughter, butcher; to put to death by violence; mortally wounded.
Sphazo is used nine times in the New Testament. Eight of these occur in the book of Revelation.
Three times in Revelation 5, sphazo is used to describe Christ’s death. One example is noted below.
Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
Sphazo also describes how Cain killed Abel. The text makes a point to mention the type of death twice.
1 John 3:12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.
This word is used in Revelation 6:4. Sphazo is used to describe the type of violence of people towards each other at the outset of the seal judgments. This nature of bloodshed continues throughout Revelation until its conclusion.
…had been beheaded…The original Greek here is straightforward. The word is πελεκιζο/pelekizo. It means: to cut off with an axe, to behead. This is the only time the word is used in the New Testament.

Currently in 2017, the spirit of these verses is alive and well. There are people who articulate their intent to do so. They are backing their words with action in other parts of the world. At some point in the future tribulation, this will become a common practice by those who are opposed to the word of Jesus Christ.
July 13, 2017: Reports are emerging that Turkey and Russia have reached an arms deal regarding the S400 Missile Defense System. The deal is estimated to be at $2.5 to 3 billion. Four missile systems and missiles are part of the deal. Two batteries would be delivered to Turkey. The other two would be manufactured in Turkey. This would give Turkey the ability to initiate their own production of the S400 Missile System. The agreement is being called a “technology transfer”. Moscow is waiting on the check from Turkey.
Turkey is currently a member of NATO. The United States is utilizing the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey as a launching point for missions against ISIS. Turkey is also said to be in negotiations for F35A fighter jets and helicopter contracts. In addition, President Erdogan has personally expressed his dissatisfaction with President Trump and United States support of the Kurds in the region.
Recep Erdogan needs Russian support to rid himself of the Kurds. The S400 System has the ability to shoot down planes, missiles, and drones. Range of the system is up to 250 miles.
It would appear Turkey’s President Recep Erdogan is attempting to leverage both the United States and Russia.

According to the prophet Ezekiel, Russia will be joined by several countries in their future invasion of Israel. Russian, Turkish economic and political ties continue to strengthen. Russia’s presence in Syria is reported to be for “peaceful purposes” and “stability” for the region.
President Erdogan of Turkey is a wild card in the geopolitical scenario. Erdogan does not care for Syrian President Assad. Erdogan wants Assad out. Problem, Assad is supported by Russia. Erdogan does not care for the Shia presence near ancient Nineveh or Mosul, Iraq. Problem, Iranian Shia are supported by Russia.
All that said…predominantly Iraqi Shia are supported by the United States near Mosul. The United States also supports predominantly Kurdish Sunni near Mosul.
July 14, 2017: It has been one year since the attempted coup in Turkey against the leadership of Recep Erdogan. To celebrate the occasion, 7,348 government workers were fired. These folks were suspected of supporting the ideals of Fethullah Gulen who lives in Pennsylvania.
