Abstract

 電気光学効果を有し、厚みが10μm以下の薄板と、前記薄板に形成された光導波路と、前記光導波路を通過する光を制御するための制御電極とを有する光制御素子において、前記制御電極は、前記薄板を挟むように配置された第1電極と第2電極とを含み、前記第1電極は、少なくとも第1信号電極と接地電極とからなるコプレーナ型の電極を有し、前記第2電極は、少なくとも第2信号電極を有し、前記第1電極の前記第1信号電極及び前記第2電極の前記第2信号電極には、互いに振幅が反転した変調信号を入力し、互いに協働して前記光導波路に電界を印加するように構成する。
