These devices, as is well known, 'soon' become' loosened and turn out ofposition or .else become completelyj detached. 1;.T hey, marthe'. walls or.
Y board and are not wholly satisfactory.
This invention is designed toovercome the defects noted above and objects of such invention are to provide a novelform of bracket which may be secured to the wallboard' by means of adjustable retaining members so constructed that they positively interlock with the board and prevent displacement or turning of the bracket, or marring of the board.
Further objects are to provide a device of the above described nature which may be produced very cheaply from standard stock material, which maybe adjusted to the exact width of board with which it is to cooper-I ate, and which may be locked in adjusted position.
An embodiment of theinvention is shown in the accompanying. drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of the bracket ining members and board in ional view on the line interlock with the slidably retained inner 1. position shown Figure 1. Under these; ;cond1t1ons the,.. tongue.. 9, locks theme 'nbers' 1 ,-andf2ljagainst relative, motion [and conseevice firmly tothe board fluently locksthe d or support 6.; I Z V support carri "lilie' member which; may be formed Iwithfan extended upper 5 portion 10, and a fshorter loweriportion.11; These portions maybe formed with hook-like terminals, as illustrated in Figure 1, or in any other suitable manner. 18 formed of wlre or a small sized rod, and
a has its ends passed through apertures in the 7 plate '1. Further, the wire or rod is preferably upset or swelled, as indicated at 12 on the outer side of the outer plate 1, and is riveted, as indicated'at 13, on the inner side of such plate, although obviously other means of fastening could be employed. In order to accommodate the riveted ends 13,, the member 1 is preferably channelled, as shown most clearly in Figures 1 and 3.
This not only provides aspace for the re- 5 ception of the riveted heads or ends, but
also strengthens the device against buckling when a strain is applied thereto by suspendlng articles from the bracket or hook.
It will be seen that the device is capable of use either as a garment hook or as a supoort for other artlcles, such as bird cages,
erns, and articles of this type. Obviously,
the proportions or extent of the parts may be varied to adapt the device for the particular use intended.
It will be seen that a novel form of adjustable bracket has been provided which may be adjusted to engage the particular supporting member to which the device is arly noted that the'device can not turn'or loosen itself, and can 110 not mar or injure the support or board.
Although the invention has been dees a; bracket i.
Preferably, the bracket or. hook I at the device scribed in eonsii'lerahle detaih such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
I elaim:
1. An adjustable bracket comprising a pair of telescopicall related plates, one of said plates having inwardly turned flanges for Slidahlv receiving the otheiYoteaid plates, each oif said plates having inwardly turned arms terminating in lingersadapted to grip the upper and lower faces of a sup port, the innerot Rtlhl plates having a projecting tongue passing through an'aiperture formed in the arm of the other plate. said tongue being :nhipi'ed to he beat downwardly to lock said platesagainst relative 1n0- tion, and a bracket carried by the outer of said plates and having spaced portions rigidly attached to such outer plate.
2. An adj ustahle bracket comprising a pair of telescopically related plates, one of said plates having inwardly turned flanges for slidahly receiving the other of said plates, each of said plates having inwardly turned arms terminating in fingers adapted to grip the upper and lower faces of a sup-.
port, the inner of said plates having a projecting tongue passing through an aperture formed in the arm of the other plate, said tongue being adapted to he bent haekwardly to lock said platen against relative motion, and a bracket carried by the outer of said plates and having spaced portions rigidly attached to such outer plate the attached portions otsaid bracket being riveted to the outer of said plates and such plate having a channelled portion to provide space for the riveted portions of the bracket.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand at lllilwaukee, in the eonnty of l\lilivaul\',ee and State of l\"i. :;consi n;
