BOILER RACK.

The present invention relates to racks and it has more particular reference to devices for hanging clothes and the like, and it has for its primary object'to provide a novel deviceof the foregoing specified character mayhe hung-downwardly therefrom when not in use. Another very important ob ect of the invention lies in the p1OV1S!OI1 of anovelbracket structure for holding a rod in a'hori'zontal position when in use or allowing the same to hang downwardly when out of use, A stillfurther very important object of the invention lies in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong-and durable, easy to manipulate, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the foregoing and other'objects in view as-will be more apparent from the fore going description, this invention consists essentially in certain novel features of con struction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and more specifically claimed.

In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings constituting a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference desiginate the same or corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the device embodying the features of our invention,

Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an ordinary household boiler. A split ring 6 is adapted to be disposed about the boiler and at one end has fixed thereto an L-shaped member 7 having an opening 8. The other end of the split ring is provided with a plu rality of spaced openings 9. Another L shaped, member 10 has one end "provided with a hook'extension ll adapted to engage in oneof the openings 9' This L-shaped bracketlO is also provided with an opening Y similar to the opening 8 in the bracket 7. A bolt 12 pierces the opening Sand a nut 13 is'threaded thereon sothat the nut may= be tightened for drawing the L-shaped mem-- bers 7 and 10 towards each other thereby tightening'the spring ring 6 about the boiler." ObVlOUSlY, the L-shaped member 10 may be adjusted in'relation to the band or ring as may be required owing to different diameters in the household boilers or other structures of a cylindrical nature to which the present device may be attached.

A plurality of brackets Bare mounted about the split ring or band '6. These brackets are all of the same construction and a detailed description of one will suffice for all. Each bracket is formedfrom a single strand of material bent to provide a relatively elongated straight portion 14 terminating 'atone end in a laterally curved hook extension 15 while the other end terminates in a downwardlydirected leg of a U-shaped port-ion, said leg bein'g'denoted by the numeral 16 and merging'into the curved bi lit 17 which in turn terminates in the other eg of the U-shaped-portion denoted specifically by the numeral 18. It is to be noted that the legs 16 and 18 are verticallyfdisposed in substantial parallelism andin spaced rela tion while the bight portion 1 7 is disposed in a substantial horizontal plane and the straight elongated portion 14 is disposed in an inclined plane, that is, it extends outwardly and downwardly. The legs 18 are adapted to be disposed inside the band 6 while the bight portion 17 is under the lower edge of the band and the straight elongated portion 14 extends over the upper edge of the band.

Rods 19 are provided with eyes 20 at one end which a e pierced by the bight portions 17.

It will be seen that the rods 19 maybe disposed to rest in the hook extensions 15 and thus extend substantially horizontally and radially in respect to the band rin 6 and therefore be used for hanging clot es or the like thereon. When these rods, how ever, are not in use they may be suspended downwardly as indicated in dotted lines in invention will be perfectly clear without further explanation and description and it will v also be obvious that by our invention we have provided a simple, useful, and very reliable and eflicient article for the purposes hereinbefore specified.

While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it will be obvious that the same is susceptible of minor changes and modifications without departing from the spirit or scope thereof and for the foregoing reasons we wish it hereby clearly understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise arrangementand formation of the several parts shown but consider ourselves at liberty to make detailed changes and variations therein as fairly lie within the claimed scope of the invention.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new is l 1. In a boiler rack of the character described a band, a plurality of brackets associated with the band, each bracket consisting of a single strand of material bent to provide a U-shaped member for engagement in back of the band, and a substantially horizontal and right angular straight portion for engagement outwardly of the band at the upper edge thereof, a lateral hook upon the outer end of the straight portion, the bight of the U-shaped member extending below the lower edge of the band and being bent outwardly with respect thereto, said supporting arm being pivotally secured tothe bight and adapted to be maintained in substantially horizontal position when swung upwardly and arranged upon the hook of the bracket r 2. In a boiler rack of the character described, a band, aplurality of brackets associated with the band, each bracket consisting of a single strand of material bent the bight of the U-shaped member extending below the loweredge of the band and being bent outwardly and in substantially horizontal. plane with the lateral hook, said supporting arm having an eye at one end thereof through which the bight of the U- shaped portion extends, for pivotally supporting the same in substantially horizontal position when swung upwardly and arranged upon the hook of the bracket.

In a boiler rack of the character described, a band, a plurality of brackets associated with the band, each bracket consisting of a single strand of material bent to provide a Ushaped member for engagement in back of the band, and a substantially horizontal and right angular straight portion for engagement outwardly of the band at the upper edge thereof, a lateral hook upon the outer edge of the straight portion, the bight of the U-shaped member extending below the lower edge ofthe band and being bent outwardly and in substantially a horizontal plane with the lateral hook, said straight portion being inclined from thevtop edge of the band to a point horizontal with the bottom edge of the band, said supporting arm having an eye at one edge through which the bight of the U- shaped portion extends for pivotally supporting the same in substantially a'horizontal position when swung upwardlyand arranged upon the hook of the bracket.
