vented certain new and useful Improvements in Side Frames; and I- do hereby declare-the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enpertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to side frames for railway car trucks and more particularly to the construction of those portions of a cast side frame with integral cent the ends of the frame.
The principal object of my invention,-'genorally considered, is the reinforcement of the union between integral journal boxes at the ends of a cast side frame for railway car trucks.

A car truck side frame comprising compression and tension members generally U-shape in cross-section, each formed w1th a web and flanges extending therefrom on op-L posite sides of the web, and a journal box at each end. of the frame and joined integrally thereto adjacent the junction of the compression and tension members, the junctions between the frame and the journal boxes beingreinforced by flanges extending along the faces of the side frame between the tension member and'those portions of the side frame above the journal boxes, said flanges being increased in"depth to amaximum adacent the upper inner corners of the journal was and decreasing in depth therefrom to their ends.
