SPARK-PLUG CLEANER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CONRAD JACOBS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented new and useful I'mprovemcnts in Spark-Plug Cleaners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in spark plug cleaners.

The general object of this invention is the provision of a durable and compact spark plug cleaner having ablade so shaped that it serves for scraping and for fitting into the various grooves in a. spark plug.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a spark plug cleaner having a blade which is of the thickness equal to the proper distance between the terminals of a spark plug so that it may be used forspacing the terminals.

These objects are accomplished by providing a spark plug cleaner constructed similar to a jackknife and having a blade, the end of which is squaredand having the end portion extending at an angle to the plane of the blade.

These and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a side plan view of the spark plug cleaner;

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the spark plug cleaner with the blade rotated out of he handle casing; and

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the spark plug cleaner with the blade enclosed.

Referring to the above-mentioned drawings, a two-edged blade 10 is shown with an approximately square end 11, -the end por-- tion 12 extending at an angle to the plane of the blade 10. The defining line between the end portion 12 and the blade 10 extends diagonally across the blade so that the plane of the end portion 12 not only extends at an angle to the plane of the blade but also to a plane at right angles to the blade in passing though the median line of the same.

The edges of the blade extend parallel toone another. The blade 10 is pivotally mounted in a casing 13 by means of the pin 14:. A projection 15 integral with the blade 10 extends beyond the end of the casing 13 when the blade is enclosed the-rein. An oil'- s'et 16 is provided in one wall of the casing 13 for protecting the end portion 12 which extends at an angle to the plane of the blade 10. The thickness of the blade 10 may be varied, but for use with the ordinary spark plug it would be made of a thickness nearly'equal to the distance that the electrodes should normally be placed from one another,

In the use of this spark plug cleaner, the blade is rotated out of the casing by means of the projection 15. This blade has a squared end 11 which serves for scraping the walls of the spark plug by longitudinal movement of the blade. The end portion 12 is so curved that the blade may be projected into the spark plug and this end portion fitted into the grooves in the bottom of the chamber in the spark plug, the blade being provided with two edges 17 and 18 that may be used for scraping the wall by cutting in either direction. The thickness of the blade is such that it may be drawn between the electrodes of the spark plug, as shown in Figure 1, to remove the carbon that may have adhered, withoutaltering the spacing of them.

I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

1. A spark plug cleaner, comprising a handle, a blade pivotally mounted in the handle, said blade including a body portion, and an end portion lying in a plane extending at an angle to the plane of the body portion and intersecting it along a line extending diagonally of the axis of the body )f the blade.
