Another object f-.my invention is to provide a razor holder wherein the employment of a double-edged blade will etiiciently protect the unused edge thereof without any accompanying contact with said unused edge.
Another object is to provide a holder for a double-edged blade wherein the construction and arrangement are such that the proper positioning of the blade upon a blade seat isaccomplished by means other than pushing the blade transversely to the cutting edge. It is a particular object to provide a blade seat whose structural nature is such as to make use of t-he blade characteristics resulting directly from the manufacture of the blade. More particularly, it is an object to provide a seat which is so configured as to cooperate, for the proper positioning of the blade thereon, with the configurations produced upon the completed blade in the course of the manufacture and processing of said blade.
It is an important object of my invention to provide a holder which is extremely compact, more particularly one wherein the employment of the exceptionallyl small blades is accomplished by means of a correspondingly small vblade seat.
Another obj ect is to provide a holder whose constituent parts are arranged in normally inseparable relationship, thereby providing a unitary structure whose employment is not accompanied lby repeated assembly and disassembly of parts.

Itis a feature of my invention to provide a blade seat, a handle whose upper end is beneath the seat, a blade cover which is devoid of any portions extendin through the seat but which is provided Wit a portion extending around and thence beneath the seat, and means for releasably engaging the handley with the cover.
It is another feature of my invention to provide this structural arrangement in association with a hinged cover,the hinging serving to retain the cover in normally inseparable association with the device as a whole.
Another feature of my invention resides in providing means for retaining the handle in similar normally inseparable associa-tionl with the device as a whole. And it is a feature to provide the handle-holding means in such a manner that free movability of the handle is still rendered possible for effecting the releasable engagement referred to."g

Other features of my invention reside in the provision of an arrangement for engaging the blade upon the seat by a contact over only a substantially medial portion of the blade; an arrangement for` efficiently enclosing, Without contacting, the unused edge of the blade so engaged; an arrangement for rendering the width of the uppermost portion of the holder substantially no greater than the width of the relatively narrow blade seat; an arrangement for permitting the application of a users finger to the holder directly behind the blade seat so as to enhance the guidability of the device; and'other arrangements which lead to the provision of an extremely elicient, compact, simply constructed, easily operable, and attractively appearing razor holder.
For the attainment of the foregoing objects and such other objects as may hereinafter appear or be pointed out, I have illustrated one l sa holder in association with a blade and ready for use;

I provide a base 10 whose upper surfaces are angularly disposed and comprise a forwardly inclined port-ion 11 and a rearward surface 12 extending downwardly from the rear edge of the surface 11 at substantially right angles thereto. The surface 11 is constructed to constitute a blade seat and is inclined forwardly a slight degree as shown in Figure 2. An undercut recess 13 is provided in the base to underlie the rear portion of the seat 11, and the bottom of the recess 13 is provided with an opening 14 to permit the passage therethrough of the upper threaded portion 15 of the handle. It will be noted that the handle in this way underlies the rear portion of the seat 11.
Hinged to the rear lower portion of the base 1.0, i. e.. immediately to the rear of the opening 14, is a blade cover 16 comprising an angular member having a blade-covering portion 17 adapted to overlie the seat 11 when the cover is closed and a rear portion 18 extendingr from the rear edge of the port-ion 17 to the hinge 19. Arranged on the interior of the portion 18 is an attaching lug 2() having an internally threaded openingr adapted to register with the opening 14 when the blade cover is closed and to receive the threaded end portion 15 of the handle. to move into and out of the recess 13 when the blade cover is pivotally moved from the position of Figure 2 to that of Figure 4 and vice versa. Accordingly, the upper wall of the recess 13 is curved as shown most clearly in Figure 4, and the upper surface 21 of the lug 20 is also curved. these curvatures being substantially of a character whose center is at the pivot axis 19. The base of the recess 13 is substantially fiat, and the base 22 ofthe lug 20 is also flat so that this base may register with the base of the recess. as shown in Figure 4, when the blade cover is in closed position.
Before proceeding to describe in greater detail the features of the blade cover and the seat, I will describe the handle and the construction which retains it in permanent association with the device as a whole, while at the same time permitting manipulation there- The lug 20 is designedi of for effecting a releasable engagement of the cover.
A sleeve or tubular element 23 is attached below the base l0, this attachment being preferably accomplished by means of screw threads 24. Mounted within the sleeve in a. reciprocable and freely movable manner is the portion l5 already referred to, this portion being securely attached, by means of a. bolt 25, to the main portion 26 of the handle. The handle, including the threaded ortion 15 is therefore freely rotatable to e 'ect the screw-threaded engagement between the han-' dle and the lug 20. The handle must also be reciprocable, so that the upper end thereof may be withdrawn from t ie recess 13 during the releasable engagement referred to. This reciprocal movement isrendered possible by the free mounting of the portion 15 in the seleve 23, but this reciprocal movement is limited in extent so that-the handle may never be totally separated from the base 10, whether it is in engagement with the blade cover or not. The limitation of the reci rocal movement may be effected by provi ing an abutment or internal shoulder 27 in the lower portion of the sleeve 23, and by providing an abutment or shoulder 28 between the main handle 26 and the sleeve 23. Thus, it will be noted that the lower portion of the handle portion 15 is provided with a shoulder which encounters the abutment 27 when the portion 15 is moved downwardly; and the upper portion of the handle 26 is so con-- structed as to encounter the abutment 28 when the handle is moved upwardly. In Figure 2, the handle is in withdrawn or downward position; and in Figure 4, the handle is shown in its engaging or upward position.
Referring now more particularly to Figure 3, it will be noted that the seat is provided with the usual forward guard portion 29. The seat is designed to accommodate a double-ed ged blade of the flexible wafer type, the forward edge being held in proper positional relationship over the guard 29, and the i rear or temporarily unused edgelying over the rear portion of the seat 11. Although, as to certain phases of my invention, the method of properly positioning such a blade upon ,i the seat is immaterial, I have illustrated and shall now describe a construction which avails itself of the configurations formed upon the blade during the manufacture and processing thereof. The blade I have illustrated is provided with a medial ridge or rib 30, this rib having a denite function during the manufacture of the blade. At the opposite ends of the rib, recesses 3l are provided. It will be noted that the blade is an exceptionally narrow one.
The seat 11 is provided with a medial raised portion 32 and lugs or projections 33 at the opposite ends thereof, the portions 32 and 33 being so constructed and arranged that any selected blade ma be applied thereto and will be automatica y positioned in proper revthe blade in such pro er position b a pressure applied thereto rom above. pon reference to Fi ures 2 and 4:, it will be noted that the portion 17 of the blade cover is interiorly concave, and that by virtue of this construction only the forward edge of the portion contacts with the blade 34 which has been applied to the blade seat. This contact occurs at a medial portion of the blade 34, leaving the forward operative edge entirely free for shaving purposes, and the cover portion 17 extends upwardly and rearwardly away from the line of contact so as to enclose, without contacting, the rear and temporarily unused edge of the blade 34. The manner in which this rear edge is enveloped and thereby protected is clearly shown in Figure 4.
It will be noted also that the portion 18 of the blade cover is exteriorly concave, and this configuration permits the user to apply his foreinger thereto ina convenient manner so as to enhance the guidability of the device by a pressure applied directly behind the blade.
lt will also be noted that the cover portion 16. is laterally ianved as at 35 (Figures 3 and 5), and these fanges render the assembled and closed device particularly eiiicient and attractive, inasmuch as they enclose the lateral edges 360i the base 10, and also the lateral edges of the blade bein employed. When the device is employed, the handle is manipulated to release -the lug 20, and the blade cover is thereupon free to be swung backwards into the position of Figure 2. A selected blade is then applied to the blade seat 11, positioning itself thereon in an accurately predetermined relationship with respect to the guard 29. Thereupon, the blade cover is swung forwardly into the position of Figure 4. This encloses the blade (with the exception of the operative edge thereof) and it also positions the attachment lu 20 directly over the upper threaded en of the handle portion 15. The handle may then be manipulated to screw the portion 15 into the lug 20 and thereby present an assembled and completely set-up device for operation. In the changing of blades, or the cleaning of the device, the operations are reversed, as will be readily understood. It will be noted that `the cover is held in closed position by a re- 'leasable engagement taking place beneath the seat. Another feature of my invention resides in the provision of a compartment in the handle Within which a blade-carryin magazine may be frictionaliy and remova lyY accommodated. I have shown the main portion 26 constructed with an octagonal cross-sec- .'tion, and of a tubular nature, having its4 lowermost end open. A conforma-bly constructed cap 37 is applicable over this o en end and is provided with a fiat under-sur ace 38 which permits the assembled device to be stood on end as shown in Figurel.

At the opposite ends of themagazine, upstanding lugs or fingers 40 are designed to accommodate themselves in the recesses 31 of a set of stacked blades. The size of the hollow handle and the size of the blade magazine are so co-related that the latter may be frictionally inserted and removed from the handle, the sides bracing themselves against opposite parallel sides ofthe octagonal handle. It Will be understood that an octagonal shape is by no means essential,
the essence of the construction being that the magazine-accommodating compartment is conformably constructed with respect to the Imagazine so that the latter may be removably accommodated. v l It will be understood that certain phases of my invention do not limit me to the employment of the particular type of blade illustrated and described. The seat may be constructed in other ways for accommodating, in a similarly eiicient manner, blades which have configurations embodied thereon. In eneral, the details herein described and illustrated for the purpose of explaining the nature of my invention may be changed by those skilled in the art without departing -from the spirit and scope of the invention as expressed in the appended Claims. It is therefore intended that theee details he interpreted as illustrative, and not in a limitint,r lsense.
