Description

L, H. ATWEt-L. HOSE SUPPORTER.
APPUCATION FILED OCT- 5, 19l8.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Application filed October 5, 1918.
To aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Lns'rnn H. A'rwELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grove City, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose- Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description oi? the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appeii'tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements 111 hose supporters,-one object of the inven tion being to provide a device of this character whereby the hose may be properly supported and avoid the necessity for the use oi leg-encircling parts, or means suspended from parts of the garment of the wearer.
lVith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawing is a view illustrating an embodiment otmy invention.
.1. represents a stocking, to the upper edge of which, my improved supporter is attached.
The device comprises an upright 2 which may be made of wood or metal and stained or covered with cloth of any desired color, and a stocking attaching member 3 to be connected with the upper edge of the stocking.
The upright 2 will assume a vertical position and may be made to extend downwardly into the shoe of the wearer so as to be supported by the shoe and so that it will support the attaching member 3 at the upper edge of the stocking.
The attaching member 3 comprises a cross bar 4 provided at its respective ends with pairs of upWardly-projecting jaws, 5, which form clamps to receive and hold upper edge portions of the stocking.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ported. between the shoe ported in upright position Patented Nov. 23, 1920. Serial No. 256,994.
In applying the device, the upper edge of the stocking will be drawn closely about the leg of the wearer and portions of the upper edge of the stocking between the respective pairs of jaws as at 6-theslack portion of the upper edge of the stocking becoming disposed between the pairs of jaws, as indicated at 7.
With my improvements, the hose enge'iging head portion of the device will be sup ported in proper elevated position by the upright member and the latter will be supand leg of the wearer.
Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my improvements without departing from the spirit of my invention or limiting its scope andhence I do not wish to restrict myself to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what i claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors-Patent, is j A hose supporter comprising an upright member of rigidmaterial having a plain lower portion adapted to enter the shoe of a wearer between the foot and ankleof the wearer and the shoe upper so as to be supwithout direct attachment to said shoe, and a horizontal member rigid with the upper end of said upright member, said horizontal member provided at each of its ends with a pair of upwardly projecting spaced jaws, the jaws of each pair adapted to receive material of the upper edge portion of a sock between them and so that the slack material oi. the sock shall occupy the space between said pairs of upwardly projecting jaws.
In testimony whereof l have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribmg witnesses.
