To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN C. SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Clasp, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be employed for supporting garments, although the structure is of peculiar utility in upholding stockings or socks.

The invention aims to provide a simple means whereby a stocking, sock or other article of wearing apparel may be firmly but releasably held, the construction bemg such that the danger of tearing or wearing the stocking or sock will be reduced to a 1n1n1- mum.

. It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

\Vith the above and other objectsin view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the intention resides in the combiua tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, assembled with a portion of a stocking;

The device forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made of celluloid, although any other desired material may be used. The invention comprises a first member 1 having an I-shaped slot 2 including an enlarged lower end 3 and an enlarged upper end portion 4, the parts 3 and 4 of the slot being connected by a reduced part The invention comprises a second member 6 including a head 7 having an opening 8, a foot 9 which is rounded on its lower end as shown at 10, and a neck 11 reduced in width. The numeral 12 marks a suspension element, such as a garter, having a loop 14 slidably mounted in the part 4 of the slot 2 in the member 1 and slidably mounted in the opening 8 of the member 6. It is not necessary, however, that the loop 14.- be employed as any suitable suspension means may be used.

In practical operation, the lower end of the member 6 is placed behind the upper edge of a stocking 15. The stocking is engaged by the foot 9, the foot and the engaged portion of the stocking being thrust through the end portion 3 of the slot 2 in the main member-1, it being possible to slide the members 1 and 6, relatively to each other, longitudinally of the loop 14 in the suspension element 12. When the parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 1, the members 1 and 6 cooperate with the lower part of the loop 14 and thus the stocking 15 is securely held and gripped. It is to be observed that. since the lower edge of the foot 9 is rounded as shown at 10, the foot will not punch a hole through the stocking or wear the stocking unduly. Especial attention is directed to the fact that the foot 9 is inclined, as shown at 16, with respect to the neck 11, so as to stand approximately parallel to the lower end of the member 1, when the parts are arranged as shown in Fig. 2., Owing to this construction, the parts 9 and 7 lie on opposite sides of the member 1. the neck 11 passing through the part 5 of the slot 2 in the member 1.
