Description

l, W. G. KENDLL.-
ROUGE PAD HOLDER.-
APPLLCATIOM HLD Nov. 2. 191ex 1,236,844. 'aented Aug. 14, 1917 WILLIAM e. KENDALL, or NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
ROUGE-PAD HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' rateamiiiag-14, 1ere.
Original application led July 31, 1916, Serial No. 112,348. Divided and this application filed November 2,
of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rouge-Pad Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a .division of a cepending application filed by me July 31, 1916 and bearing the Serial. N o. 112,348 and relates tolnew and useful improvements in compressed powder holders, the primary object of my invention being the provision of a simple and improved method of packaging toilet powder, rouge-and similar` articles in compressed form. l
More specifically, my invention includes an ornamental box or container, preferably formed of sheet metal and means lockingl'y held in the box for detachably seelu'ring a pad holding a cake ofA powder so that after the powder has been used from the pad, the pad may be withdrawn and 'replaced by a fresh one.
In this eonnectiom'a still 'further object of my invention consists in` providing a device which is detachably applied Within the box and which will detachably and loclringly receivea powder holding pad.l
Another object f my invention is to provide an anchoringv ydevice 'of the, above described character otsuchconstruetion that it may be stniped or' otherwise `formed in a single pice'from sheet metal or other suitably formed of cardboard and which has a y able materiali y itlrliese a'ndiother in view my inyeiitionwill be niOre'fully described, illus- .i 1 a v /trated n 240. ,then which' ief/la'ccom'paiiying drawings, and
1,ally fpointed' out in the claims ttgehed 'tofa'n'd form a part of applicati/,Olin I "Inpie/drawings@ l i is a "central/'vertical sectional 45 vie' ,talgen throughrscontainer equipped with. my crompifessedpowder holding device:
Fig. 21s aperspective View of the anchoring device/prdpei".
Corresponding and like parts are referred 50,-to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring nioie speeiicallyfto Fig. l, I
indicates a, container or box which is prefer- Serial No. 129,162.
circular bottoni l1, an inner peripheral wall 12 and an outer peripheral wall 13, of less height than the inner wall whereby au extei-lor stop shoulder 14 is provided. to receive the annular flange 15 of the cover 16. This cover may-be either hinged to the box or not, as preferred, and a clamping ringl'?,
also preferably of cardboard, engages with# in the iiaiige 15 and securesa mirror 1S in place vwithin the cover. The engagement of the flange l5 with the shoulder 14 prevents the ring 17 being forced into undue engagement with the mirror 18 and so avoids any likelihood of injury to -the mirror through too close shutting of the cover.
My present invention consists 'primarily inproviding .means for securing a powder or rouge holding pad 19 withinthe above box.
This pad, which may beforined of card`4 vthe body, are bent upwardly, as shown at 23. The pad is'inse'rtedl between the upwardly directed arm-s of the holder 2l. and theterminals of ythearms are then bent inwardly, as shown at 24 in Fig. 1, to lock the pad to the holder, If desired, the padmay be additionally anchored to the holder byl yproviding the holder with diaiiietrically opposed V-shaped clefts 25 delining triangular shaped prongs 26 which are bent upwardly, passed through the bottom of the pad and then rebent, as clearly shown in Fig. l. The body of the liolderis also provided with a' second pair of i diametrioally disposed V- shaped clefts 27 defining triangular tongues or proiigs which are bent downwardly, passed through the bottom of the box and rebent to anchor the holder to the box.
From the foregoing descriptiomtaken in connectionpwith the drawings, the construction and method of employing the powder holder will bey readily understood. Although I have illustrated and described it in all its details, it will of course be understood that I reserve the right to make any changes, within the scope of the appended claims.
llaving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new' is:
1. 'l`he combination with a box anda eolnpressed powder holder haring a marginal flange, ol' an ant-boringr device includingl a body haring' downstruek prongs passed through the bottom of the box and bent against the lower face thereotI and upstruek prongs passed upwardly through the bottoni ol' the holde and bent against the uppel' faee thereof. l
il. The combination with a box and a compressed powder holder having.: a marginal flange, ol an anchoring device including` a body haring do\\'nstruek prongs passed through the bottom ot" theY box and lient against the lower faee thereof and upstruek prongs passed upwardly1 through the bottom ot' the holder and bent against the upperl face thereof, and arms formed at intervals about the edge ol the body and bent upwardly and inwardly to engage over the edge of the holder.
3. The combination with a box and a C0mpressed powder holder having a marginal lan'ge, ot' an anchoring device including a body adapted to seat in the bottom of the box and havingl arms adapted to be bent up wardly and inwardly about Ithe marginal lange of the holder, and means for anehoring the bod) within the box.
4. 'lfheeonihilnxtion with a box and a Compressed powder holder ha\'in,f r"a niarginal flange, ot' an anchoringdevice including a ,body ha\'in;r upstruek prongs adapted to ,be passed in\\'ardl \j through the bottom ol:
the holder and bent against theiupper face thereof` and means carried by the body for locking;r it in. the box.
ln testimony rrrhereot I allix my signature.
