Description
rra rr ROBERT E. SHARP, OF CHICAG'QILLIN 01S.
VANTY-CASE.
Specification vo To all wwm it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Ronn'r H. SHARP, a
citizen of the -United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook'and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vanity-Cases, of which the Jfollowing is a specification, reference beling had to the accompanying drawings, and to the reference characters marked thereon, whichlform a part of this specification.
This invention relates to toilet articles andcontainers therefor, and consists in the matters herein illustrated, described and claimed.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a desired quantity of rouge in compressed cake or tablet form, and a desired quantity of face powder preferably valso in cake form, anda suitable container for the two, which latter shall be provided with a mirror and With a rouge and a powder puff, thereby producing an eilieient, neat and relatively inexpensive toilet article.
Another object is to provide a toilet article of relatively small size, with means for replenishing the supply of powder, one or more times; a' desideratum since a cake of rouge will normally ontlast a very much larifer volume of powder.
nother object is to so arrange the article as a Whole that, while containing rouge and face powder, puffs, and a mirror, the size shall be ol' small dimensions, wherebythe n user may the more conveniently carry it in I detached.
her hand bag or purse.
' ln the accompanyingdrawings:
Figure l is a view in side elevation, of a F ig. 2 is a central vertical/sectional View. of the same.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan vview of the same.
Fig. 4 is a View showing all of the parts -The box-illustrated comprises a main or bottom member A and a removab e closure or top member B. These are pre erably of metal, pressed or worked up into the shape y' shown. The bottom A has vla Cylindrical l body portion 1 `provided at its lower endv with an inturned annular llange 2, and near its upper margin, with an outwardlyprd' jecting annular bead or shoulder 3. The top member B is, preferably, a rounded or convexed disk l'provided with a downwardly Iextending annular flange of an internal diameter Ato permit it to have a nice fit over that portion of the body 1 that .extends above l the bead or shoulder 31 This bead 3 acts as a stopfor the vlower margin of the flange' when the members A and B are brought together.
` llithin the body portion 1 o the bottom y member A I plac'ea lookinggla-ss or disk C, Thismay be of any suitable material, such for example asjaI glass mirror.` The disk C .o
is preterablyA ofv the 'diameter of the vinterior of the body l and .rests upon the inside of the flange 2 with its reflecting surface visible through the flange aperture when the box is inverted. A Washer 6, of paper or other suitable material, may be placed upon the disk C to protect the reflecting' medium thereon. vA' cup, D, is provided, having a bottom 7 and. an annular flange 8, the latter of such external diameter as to lit snugly but removably Within the body l. The bottom 8 will rest upon the disk C or'upon ,thi'protecting Washer 6 When the latter vis usedsthus holding the disk in placej lVithin the cu-p D is placed a cake of face powder P, which l usually prefer to mold upon a. shallow langed bottom plate 9 as shown. This bottom plate 9 will, in use, rest upon 'the bot-v A disk T lof felt or other suitable material, l? will be placed .upon the cake R.
The diameter of the ringS will be such as to insurleA a very close fit Within the member B; thus locking the rouge cake R in place,` the convex poi-tin of which will pro ject through the opening in the annular inturned ange 1l of the retaining ring S.
When 'theseveral ,parts shown in Fig. 4
are assembled, they will be in the position illustrated in the sectional view Fig. 2. The
powder cake P will become exhausted in y use much'sooner thanthe relatively small rouge cake R, and hence I provide for the easy removal of the cup D from the bottom member A, so that a new powder cakel and its container D, may be exchangedy for the first mentioned cup. D-and the usedfup powder cake.
The device illustratedy affords a 'small very useful' toilet article. l
The rougev cafs R will, preferably.; include tale in powdered forni to which, :i suitable coloring metter has been' e meel, sind then pressed into any desired teniet or other forni. powder cake l? will be prepared in a famillier manner and will, preferably, be of larger volume than. the rouge cake. The removebility of the cup L" enel its plete 5), when thepowfler Cuffie is exhausted, nml the substitution in its place of e similar con tainer D andA plete 9 and new powder calce, will be found o" great convenience and velue. It will be understood lthat I may dispense with the plate 9 and press the powder directly in 'the cup D.
I claim as my invention:

A toilet article including in combination a two part container', the lower member of which having'an inturned angedtring and e mirror within said lower meinbe`lrresting upon said ring and vislble there-- through, e Washer upon the back ofthe mirror-,n removable cup within the washer and foce powder Within the cup, and a cake of rouge upon e backing plate located .within the upper member of the container, o
