VANITY CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an. 1'7, 1922;
Application filed. March 21, 1921. Serial No. 454,007.
To all 'whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD HASTINGS RAYNon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of Queens and Stateof New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a vanity case and the primary object. is to provide an improved case of simple construction, economical to manufacture and of such construction as to be easily cleaned.
The invention in its preferred form contemplates a cylindrical casing comprising base and cover members hingedly connected, the base member having an outer circumferentialiy extending bead against which the cover member bears when in closed position', and a horizontal partition positioned in the circumferential groove formed within said base member by said bead, said partition having a plurality of apertures for the reception of cup shaped containers to receive powder puffs, or the like, and a plurality of recesses adapted to receive 1ip-sticks, or the like, and a mirror positioned against the under side of said cover member, the various parts being arranged so that the distances between the undersurface of said mirror, when said. cover member is closed, and the upper surfaces of said cups and the upper edges of said recesses being less than the thickness of the respective articles located therein whereby dislocation of said articles is prevented when said cover member is in closed position.
A further object of my invention is to provide certain improvements in a lip-stick or eye-brow pencil container whereby the stick of material may be conveniently fed out of the container as and when it is used.
The invention consists in the novel constructions, arrangements and devices for carrying out the above stated objects and such other objects as will appear from the following description of a certain preferred em.- bodiment taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a case embodying the princ1ples of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the case with the cover lifted;
Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 are sectional views taken on the lines 3-3 and 4-4 of Fig. 2, respectively; and
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of my improved lip-stick container with certain parts shown in section.
Like characters of reference designate like parts in the several views.
The casing comprises a base member 10 and a cover member 11 which are preferably connected by a suitable hinge 12. The base member is provided with a circumferentially extending outer bead 13 against which the cover member bears when it is in closed position. A partition 14 is provided within the base member and which is adapted to snap into the circumferential groove formed by the bead 13. The partition member may be provided with one or more apertures, for example, 15' and 16 so as to receive cups or containers 17 and 18. One cup may be used for holding a quantity of powder and a powder puff and the other for holding a quantity of rouge and a suitable putt for applying it.
The partition 14 may also be provided with oneor more recesses, for example, 19 and 20, which are adapted to receive tubes of material, such as a lip-stick or an eyebrow pencil, designated by the reference characters 21 and 22, respectively. A-mirror 23 may be provided in the cover member. The parts are arranged so that the distances between the undersurface of the mirror,
when the cover member is closed, and the upper surfaces of the cups 17 and 18 and the upper edges of the recesses 19 and 20 are less than the thickness of the respective articles located therein whereby dislocation of the articles is prevented when the cover member is in-its closed position, even though the case may be placed in a vertical position.
The lip-stick and eye-brow pencil containers comprise an outer tubular member 24, which is provided with a longitudinal. slot 25, and an inner tubular member 26 slidable within the member 24. The inner tube contains the lip-stickor e e-brow pencil material, which project out o the inner tube. The inner tube is provided with an-aperture registering with the slot 25 in which may be inserted a screw or pin 27 whereb the inner tube may be moved outwardly an inwardly relative to the outer tube. The screw or pin. 27 projects into the stick of material 28 so to receive a lip-stick or the like.
base member against which said cover member bears when in closed position, and a horizontal partition positioned in the groove formed within said base member by said bead, said partition having an aperture 'for the reception of a-cup adapted to receive a powder puff or the like, and a recess adapted 2. A vanity case comprising base and cover members, an outwardly extending bead formed on and running around sa1d base member against which said cover member bears when in closed position, a horizontal partition positioned in the groove formed within said base member by said bead, said partition having an aperture for the reception of a cup adapted to receive a powder puff or the like, and a recess adapted to receive a lip-stick or the like, and a mirror positioned against the undersurface of said cover member, undersurface of said mirror, when said cover member is closed, and the upper surface of said cup and the upper edge of said recess being less than the thickness of the respective articles located therein whereby dislocation of said articles is prevented when said cover member is in closed position.
3. A vanity ease comprising base and cover members, a horizontal partition the distances between the mounted in said base member, said partition having an aperture for the reception of a cup ada ted to receive a owder puff or the like an a recess adapted to receive a lipstick or the like, said partition being arranged so that the distances between the under surface of said cover member, when in closed position, and the upper surface of said cup and the upper edge of gSfilCl recess being less than the thickness of the respective articles located therein whereby dislocation of sa1d artlcles 1s prevented when sa1d cover member is in closed positlon.
4:. A vanity case comprising ;base and cover members hingedly connected, an outwardly extending bead formed on and running around said base member against which said cover member bears when in closed position, a horizontal partition positioned in the groove formed within said base member by said bead, said partitioi ,having a plurality of apertures for the re 'ception of cup shaped containers to receive powder puffs or the like and a plurality of recesses adapted to receive lip-sticks or the like, a mirror positioned against the under side of'said cover member, the distances between the under surface of said mirror, when said cover member is closed, and the upper surface of said cups and the upper edges of said recesses being less than the thickness of the respective articles located therein whereby dislocation of said articles is prevented when said cover member is in closed position.
In testimony whereof, I afiix -my signature.
