/lf/ g Iz ess'es:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. LAN GFORD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR SUPPORTING DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,027, dated January 23, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, CHARLES F. LANGEORD, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Device for Supporting Drawers and other undergarments, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object to furnish a convenient fastening by which drawers, stock ings, and like garments may be readily connected with the Suspenders, shoulder-straps, or waist, so that the weight will be supported by the shoulders and the other parts of the person relieved therefrom, which device shall be adjustable as to length, and adapted to connect with rings, loops, button-holes, or the suspender-buckles; and it consists in the combination of a frame and hook so formed as to connect with rings, loops, button holes, or buckles, and oi' a strap and slide, forming, in connection with said device, an adjustable supporter, for the purpose named.
Figure l is an eleva-tion of the supporter. Fig. 2 is au elevation oi' the same with strap detached. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the frame and hook.
As represented in the drawing, A is a rectangular frame, which may be formed of sheet metal, as shown, or formed of wire, and terminating in the hook B. C is a slide, which is formed of sheet metal, as shown, and consists of a frame, D, cross-bars e e g. The strap F is provided with a button-hole at its lower eX- tremity, for buttoning to the drawers or other garments; one end is secured to the cross-bar g in slide C by sewing. Its free end is then passed through the frame A and back under the frame D and over the cross-bars e e', as shown in Fig. l, when the friction prevents it from slipping or being drawn through.
When it is desired to'adjust the position of the supporter it is readily accomplish ed by moving the slide C either up or down, as the case requires.
When the supporter is to be attached it is readily done by passing the hook C through a ring, loop, button-hole, or buckle, when the weight of the garment will be transferred to the Suspenders or shoulder-straps. The slide is used in preference to buckles, as it furnishes a more ready means of adj listing the supporter.
I claim as my invention- The improved device for supporting drawers and other undergarments, consisting of the frame A, hook B, in combination with strap F and slide C, or its equivalent, arranged and operated substantially as set forth.
1n testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES F. LANGFORD.
