Be it known that I, ORLAND C. NnwsoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Panama City, in the county of Bay and State of Florida, have invented certain useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The invention relates to a garment supporter, and more particularly to the class of adjustable garment supporters.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a support of this characterv wherein the trousers, undergarments or other apparel can be supported without the use of Suspenders and the proper adjustment had of the garments when the supporter is in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a supporter of this character which may be made as a part of a shirt and attached thereto during the manufacture of the same, certain parts of the supporter being detachable from the shirt to permit of the laundrying of the same without damage to the adjustable parts of the supporter.

A further object.of the invention is the provision of a supporter of this character wherein the adjustment is had in a novel manner and the supporter when in use willr assure comfort and ease to the user.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of` a supporter of this character which is extremely simple in construction, strong, durable and one which may be readily adjusted to accommodate persons varying in size.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the rear portion of a shirt, showing the supporter constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view showing in detail the adjustable adjunct parts of the supporter;

Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the detachable portionl of the supporter;

Fig. A is a detail perspective view of the upper portion of the supporter which is attached to the shirt structure.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates a portion of a shirt, of the negligee type, and of the ordinary well known construction, and to which the improved supporter is applied.

The supporter comprises a loop-like body 10 which is preferably formed from a single strap looped over the shoulder of the shirtl A and secured thereto as a part thereof. This strap may be formed from the same material as that from which the shirt is made, and is preferably strengthened or reinforced by a stilfening ply or lining 11 of strong, heavy material, although the loop 10 can be made in any other manner if found desirable and from any suitable material. The upper intermediate portion of the strap constituting the loop is relatively wide and is gathered at its inner edge, as at 12, to fit snugly about the shoulder and distribute pressure placed upon the strap uniformly on theshoulder. The strap is preferably fastened at the seam about the armhole connecting the sleeve to the body of the shirt A and is fastened by stitching or otherwise to the shirt. Depending from the loop 10 is a hanger strap 13 which is formed with a forked end 14 at its upper extremity, one leg of the fork being stitched or otherwise secured to the lowermost portion of the loop 10 at one side of the seam connecting the ends of the strap constituting said loop, while the other leg is stitched or otherwise secured to said loop at the opposite side of the seam, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. This hanger or suspension strap 13 is of any required length and overlies the side seam of the body of the shirt A. The hanger or suspension strap 13 at its forked end is fitted snugly and closely immediately below the armhole in the shirt. Provided at intervals in the hanger strap 13 are eyelets 15 which are disposed in vertical alinement with each other and constitute holes, in any one of which is adapted to be detachably engaged an attaching member hereinafter fully described.

The hanger strap 13 is constructed similarly to the strap constituting the loop and is adapted to be a lpermanent part of the latter.

The attaching member comprises a substantially ltriangular shaped frame 16 formed from a stiff wire and bent to provide a hooked bill 17 which detachably engages in any one of the eyelets in the hanger strap. The frame has formed thereon double and single loops 18 and 19, respectively, which are angularly disposed with respect to each other and are spaced apart. Trained through the double loop are the double stretches 2O of a front attaching strap 21, the end portions of which are formed with button-holes 22 to constitute tabs for engagement with the buttons on trousers at the front thereof, While connected with the single loop -V19 is a rear strap 23 which, in the end portion thereof, is formed with a buttonhole 241 for the detachable engagement of said strap 23 with a button at the rear of the trousers. Engaged on the frame 16 between the loops 18 and 19 is an extensible tab 25 carrying an attaching member 20 adapted to be fastened to an under garment or hose, the tab 25 being extensible throughv the medium of a buckle 27 for the proper adjustment thereof. The front strap 21 is self-adjustable through the double loops 1S, as will b e obvious, so as to permit freedom of movement of the wearer of the supporter. Each rear strap 23 is tted with a slide buckle 28 of any approved type so that said strap can be lengthened and shortened in the use thereof.

It is of course to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the inventionsuch as come properly Within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the in vention or sacriicingany of its advantages. It is to be understood that each side of the shirt is provided with a shoulder loop and attaching devices and the attaching devices can be removed to permit of the laundrying of the shirt, as will be apparent.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and use of the herein described garment supporter will be readilyv apparent and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
