To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RussnLL E. BARNHART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huntington, in the county of Cabell and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Permanent Bath-Tub Seat, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is a bath tub, and one object of the invention is to provide a device ofthat kind which may be used like an ordinary bath tub, or as a foot tub, at the will of an operator.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a bath tub of the kind above mentioned, with a seat having novel features whereby a drainage of water discharged onto the seat will be brought about.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a bath tub constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; and

Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

The bath tub forming the subject matter of this application includes a bottom 1, an

end wall 2, and sides 3, the bottom 1 being provided with legs 4: if desired. The tub includes an end wall 5 connected with the bottom 1 and inclined downwardly and'inwardly to form a head rest for a person occupying a recumbent position on the bottom 1. An elevated seat 6 is formed integrally with the end wall 5 and is spaced vertically with respect to the plane of the bottom 1. The seat 6 has a slight downward and inward inclination, as shown at 7, so as to dischargewater onto the inclined .end wall 5 and thence onto the bottom 1. A supplemental end wall 8 is formed integrally with the seat 6 and is connected with the side walls 3. The seat 6 is supplied at its forward edge with an upstanding projection 9 spaced from the side walls 3 and from the supplemental end wall 8, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The projection 9 has a three-fold purpose: First, it shapes the seat to conform with the body of the operator: secondly, it causes the water draining onto the seat to be discharged onto the end wall 5 adjacent the sides 3: and third, it prevents certain parts of the body of'tlie operator from coming in contact with the water which drains 011' the seat 6.

The construction of the device is such that a person may take a bath therein, in a recumbent position, the head being supported on the end wall 5. Further, if desired, aperson may assume a sitting posture on the part 6 as is necessary when a foot bath is desired.

It is to be observed that the body portion of the tub is relatively long, and that the seat 6 is relatively short. Consequently, the tub will not tip endwise, when the operator is occupying the seat, and it is unnecessary to put a leg under the seat 6, the space beneath the seat 6 being open and unencumbered. Further, it is to be observed that, by any suitable means indicated at 15, the Water is discharged into the tub through the end wall 2 and not on the seat 6. Consequently, if desired, a foot bath may be taken without undressing completely, since no water is discharged on the seat from the means indicated at 15.

The tub forming the subject matter of this application may, of course, be fashioned from any desired material and it may be equipped at its upper edge with the usual outstanding depending flange 16.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A bath tub comprising. a bottom elevated at one end of the tub to form a seat which slants downwardly and forwardly, the tub including an outwardly bulged end wall merging into the seat and inclined to overhang the seat, the seat being provided adjacent its forward edge with an upstanding projection spaced from the sides of the tub.
