Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0920038/IV(a)/1> (wherein A represents a saturated, straight or branched, bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 2-4 carbon atoms, not more than 3 carbon atoms separating the two free valencies, or an o-phenylene radical), and salts thereof (e.g. alkali and alkaline-earth metal salts and salts with amines such as ethanolamine), the preparation thereof by reacting adamantan-1-ol with an acid anhydride of the general formula <FORM:0920038/IV(a)/2> and pharmaceutical compositions containing the products. Adamantan-1-ol is prepared by hydrolysis of 1-bromoadamantane. The pharmaceutical compositions, which have chloretic activity, may be in solid, semisolid or liquid forms suitable for oral, rectal or parenteral administration, e.g. tablets, pills, powders, granules, suppositories, emulsions, solutions, suspensions, syrups or elixirs.
