Abstract

912,845. Mounting electric motors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Sept. 19, 1960 [July 1, 1960], No. 32167/69. Class 79(3). A traction motor 1 of an electric vehicle is resiliently. mounted partly on the driving axle or oh a hollow shaft surrounding the axle with clearance therebetween and partly on a bogie or chassis frame 2 by means of vertically disposed shear-type rubber metal sandwich mountings 6, 7 in addition to which are rubber/metal spring units 14 arranged to be loaded in combined shear and compression applying opposed vertical forces to the motor to minimise vertical deflections of the motor. An extension 12 is provided on the motor casing 3 against which bear the vertical pushrods 19 of the pair of spring units 14 which are mounted in housings 15 bolted to brackets 13 and the bogie frame 2. The spring units contain sleeve-like rubber elements 17 formed with generally conical ends , so that they are loaded in combined shear and compression between the inside of the housing and the pushrod when the motor moves vertically. The ends 16 of the housing are adjustable to alter the preload on the spring unit and cylindrical pushrod extensions 20 limit the deflection of the rubber. In an alternative (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the pair of housings is provided on the motor casing and a pair of abutments is provided on the bogie or vehicle frame.
