Abstract

979,145. Resilient mountings. METALASTIK Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963 [March 16, 1962], No. 10261/62. Heading F2S. [Also in Division B7] An axle-hung electric traction motor 10 is resiliently supported from an axle sleeve 11 towards each side of the motor casing by a mounting comprising a pair of resilient chevron mounts 45 in V-formation, one above and the other below the axle 12, with an effective point of action to support the vertical loading which is located at a point M on the sleeve axis beyond the adjacent side of the motor casing. Each chevron mount 45 comprises a V-formation rubber pad 52, stressed in combined shear and compression and cored out at 53 at the apex, between inner and outer members 51, 50. The inner member 51 is located by a bridge piece 57 engaging in a slot 56 in boss 54 formed on the axle sleeve 11 and the outer member is supported by an adaptor block 55 received by an L-section seating 61 on member 60. The seatings 61 are mounted on the motor casing by bolts 63 passing through the block 55 and by dowels 64. The transversely opposed pairs of mounts are preloaded by the members 60 and vertical relative movement between the bosses 54 and blocks 55 is limited by plates 71 bolted on the upper and lower surfaces of the blocks 55 which contact opposed extensions 70 of the pads 52.
