Abstract

917,129. Piston rings. RAMSEY CORPORATION. April 24, 1961, No. 14750/61. Class 122 (1). A piston oil-control ring assembly comprises a pair of split, thin rings 11, 12 urged axially apart and radially outwards by an expanderspacer ring 13 comprising circumferentiallyspaced ring supporting members 33 integrally connected by looped bridge members 30 of radial depth greater than the radial depth of the members 33. The members 33 are U-shaped in cross-section and have inclined tabs 37 at their free ends to engage and urge the rings 11, 12 against the sides 20, 21 of the ring groove 15 and against the cylinder wall 24. The ring 13 may be made from stainless steel blank and may be split as indicated at 38.
