A shuttered 5 amp. adaptor comprises three resilient metal stampings 19, 20, 21 located by the securing screws 15, 16, 18 of pins 13, 14, 17 respectively, each stamping providing at its free end socket contacts 19a, 20a, 21a situated behind holes in the cover 22. Sockets 29, 30 behind holes on both sides of the adaptor are formed at the ends of mutually reversed stampings 31 engaged by stampings 19, 20 and screws 15, 16, sockets 29, 30 being preferably separated by an insulating plate 32, the earthing sockets being formed by half-sockets 33, formed at the ends of a stamping 34 secured to the body 10 by a screw 18, and by V-shaped blades 36 formed at the ends of a resilient stamping 35 also secured by screw 18. An insulating shutter 38 is biased by a blade 39 formed at the end of a further resilient stamping 40 also secured by screw 18, the shutter fulcrumming about a projection 38a, a shutter lying in slots 37 in the body 10 parallel to each side of the adaptor covering sockets 29, 30. The shutter has a projection 38d engaging blade 36 of the earthing socket, so that the shutter is actuated by the earth pin of an inserted plug. A projection 41 from the adaptor body 10 separates sockets 19a, 20a and locates stampings 35 and 40. The adaptor cover 22 contains a shutter 42 biased to cover sockets 19a, 20a, 21a by a spring 43 and rotatable about a bush 44, a screw 46 passing through clearance holes 47 in stampings 34, 35, 40 to hold the adaptor in assembled position. Another embodiment (Figs. 7-8, not shown) describes a 15- and 5-amp. adaptor, but in which the adaptor body and cover are moulded to an approximately equilateral triangular shape in front view. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the shutters may be omitted.
