Abstract

778,032. Upholstery. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AKT.-GES. Oct. 26, 1955 [Oct. 29, 1954; Nov. 3, 1954; Aug. 20, 1955], No. 30564/55. Class 52 (4). A cap-like cushioning for interposition between a spring unit 1 and an outer cover 2 consists of a larger upper panel 3 and at least one smaller lower panel 4 of material such as plastic foam, the edge regions of panel 3 being bent down and abutting the edge faces of panel 4. Preferably the panels are cemented together. A layer of scrap material may be interposed between the panels. A raised edge, Fig. 3, is formed by the insertion of an edge strip 8 between the panels. Resilient padding strips 15 or 17, Figs. 5 or 6, may be secured to the cushioning to abut the edges of the frame of spring unit 1. The faces of the edge regions of panel 3 may be lacquered. As shown in Fig. 8, the edge regions of panel 3 may be folded, the abutting faces 18 being secured together either by cement or by stitching 19. The cushioning of Fig. 1 is formed by placing in a boundary frame first the layer 3 and then the layer 4 the appropriate surfaces having been coated with cement and the frame being of such size that it folds up the edge regions of panel 3 into abutment with the edge faces of panel 4.
