750,300. Sliding jaw clamps. EMPIRE PLASTICS (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd. Feb. 24, 1954 [Nov. 26, 1952], No. 29882/52. Class 44. A device for suspending towels &c. comprises a rigid base 10 secured to a wall &c., a pendant portion 13 projecting from the base and defining, with the base, an open-ended slot 15, and a retaining member 17 slidable in a recess 18 in the base and resiliently urged to clamp a towel 16, introduced into the slot, against the pendant portion. The spigot 12 of the pendant portion is secured in the base by a screw 14 or by adhesive and the retaining member is urged by a spring 20 to grip the towel, the pendant portion 13 being recessed at 21 to improve the grip. In modifications the recess 18 has a flange limiting outward movement of the retaining member, which is in the form of a spring-urged ball, and a number of towels &c. are suspended by a number of pendant portions provided on a single base. The device may be formed of wood, moulded in plastic or die-cast in metal and when it is desired to suspend heavier articles a stronger spring is provided which is overcome by a manually operable member to permit insertion of the article.
