Abstract

1506738 Friction clutches AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 7 April 1976 [17 April 1975] 15929/75 Heading F2C In a friction clutch a plurality of spacers is provided between the clutch cover 2 and the flywheel 1, bolts 3 which pass through the spacers 4 connecting the cover to the flywheel. The spacers may guide the presser plates 7, 8 for axial movement as shown in Fig. 3 where a spacer 4 is of aluminium and is provided with wear resistant pins 10 which contact the sides of an aperture 9 of the presser plate 8. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the spacers are integral with the clutch cover. The pins 10, which are formed by rolling steel strip, may be replaced by inserts of sintered nickel iron, of trapezoidal section, or by spring steel clips (Fig. 5, not shown). The clutch shown is a twin-plate type but it may alternatively be a single plate clutch. A diaphragm spring 6 engages the clutch.
